A Context-Aware Edge-Based VANET Communication Scheme for ITS

Abstract: We propose a context-aware edge-based packet forwarding scheme for vehicular networks. The proposed scheme employs a fuzzy logic-based edge node selection protocol to find the best edge nodes in a decentralized manner, which can achieve an efficient use of wireless resources by conducting packet forwarding through edges. A reinforcement learning algorithm is used to optimize the last two-hop communications in order to improve the adaptiveness of the communication routes. The proposed scheme selects different e… Show more

“…Regarding the proposals that have the 1-to-many communication approach [21], [22], it is important to observe the following characteristics: a) they require the knowledge of the 2-hop neighbors, b) they are oriented to active message forwarding and c) they do not consider the RSU as a system entity. However, due to high vehicle mobility in VANETs, it is challenging to maintain the up-to-date information about 2-hop neighbors, and the system densities become dynamic.…”

“…Similarly, knowledge-sharing strategies to take advantage of self-taught knowledge between EC devices, such as pertaining to home IoT, have been considered [80]. Undoubtedly, EC-specialized or related optimization problems formulation and solution will be valuable [72,81,82,83], as discussed in the case of optimization consideration for platooning for automatic driving [84], evolutionary game theoretical proposals for mobile devices and security [85,86], better estimation of interference in EC devices [87], cost-effective placement of EC servers [88], computational power allocation for blockchains [89], and incorporation of computer vision [90].…”
