SCARE: A Novel Switching and Collision Avoidance pRocEss for Connected Vehicles Using Virtualization and Edge Computing Paradigm

Abstract: In this paper, some collision avoidance systems based on MEC in a VANET environment are proposed and investigated. Micro services at edge are considered to support service continuity in vehicle communication and advertising. This considered system makes use of cloud and edge computing, allowing to switch communication from edge to cloud server and vice versa when possible, trying to guarantee the required constraints and balancing the communication among the servers. Simulation results were used to evaluate th… Show more

“…In this work, we have exploited the virtualization paradigm. 33 The web servers are running Apache 34 listen on port 80 to attend to the end user requests. In this research, the servers and the RYU controller are virtual machines running on VirtualBox, 35 all of them with identical characteristics: 1024 MB of memory, 2 CPU cores, and a CPU execution capability of 100%.…”

“…The controller interfaces with the devices through a southbound interface, with which it sends the information necessary for the correct functioning of the SDN switches and also exports information in the form of API through a northbound interface, thanks to which the level applications superior are able to have an abstract view of the underlying infrastructure and can manipulate its configuration, state and behavior. SDN, thanks to the centralized logic that can locate controller away from the network, enables the use of cloud/edge platforms 4 and then it is candidate to be used in many contexts resolving integration issues in VANET environment, 4,5 IoT applications. 6, 7…”

“…Two objective functions addressing energy-efficient offloading and safe path planning are proposed in [ 8 ] as part of a constrained multi-objective optimization problem for UAVs. The authors of [ 9 ] are primarily concerned with path planning under the paradigm of edge computing. In addition, the authors of [ 10 ] present an algorithm for creating a feasible task migration path, taking into account the migration distance between UAVs, the load condition of UAVs, and environmental characteristics.…”
