A Comparison of Motorcycle Helmet Wearing Intention and Behavior between Urban and Rural Areas

Abstract: The motorcycle is one of the important modes of transport for Thai people in all provinces due to its convenience and ability to access all areas and cover short distances, which is especially convenient for rural people. However, according to the accident record, it was found that the motorcycle was the vehicle causing the highest amount of accidents, and helmet wearing could save lives and reduce the level of severe injuries. In this regard, the objective of this study was to study and develop a model of fac… Show more

“…This result is quite reasonable, as parents who use CRSs tend to have various perceived benefits (such as reducing child movement and injury severity), whereas the CRS non-user group focuses on the comfort of parents when traveling. This result is consistent with several studies, such as that by Champahom et al [10], Jomnonkwao et al [12], and Ross et al [67], finding that perceived benefits had a positive effect on motivation and behavior during decision-making regarding the use of safety equipment to prevent serious injuries from road crashes. In both models, PB was found to have no significant effect on CRS use.…”

“…Namely, these authors emphasize the difference for telematics of two-wheelers and provide a novel crash detection algorithm proved against the experimental data for this type of vehicles. This is of particular interest, as motorcycle drivers cause the highest number of accidents [20]. Other vehicles, such as heavy-duty trucks [21], have also been investigated, but this is out of the scope of our study.…”

“…Further, the study of road safety is related to psychological or health behaviors. Several studies have examined drivers’ health and risk behaviors by applying related theories; for example, the health belief model [ 18 , 19 ] and locus of control [ 20 ]. However, these concepts are rarely used in investigating drivers’ valuation of road accidents.…”
