Introduction: Reducing disability and improving upper limb function after stroke often involve several different interventions and require the co-operation of the patient and rehabilitation team. Goal: To determine whether the combination of rehabilitation (physical/aquatic therapy -PT/AT) and occupational therapy (OT) yielded better results in the treatment of chronic stroke sequelae than physical/ aquatic therapy intervention concurrent with electrical stimulation. Materials and methods: The study included 42 poststroke hemiplegic patients undergoing treatment at the "Sf. Maria" Neuromotor Rehabilitation Centre, Craiova, and was conducted between November 2016 and December 2017. The subjects were randomly distributed into two groups: group 1 consisted of 21 patients who underwent physical/aquatic therapy plus OT, and group 2 consisted of 21 patients who underwent physical/aquatic therapy plus electrical stimulation. The functional status of hemiplegic patients was evaluated by applying the Rivermead Test, and their motor function (upper extremity) was evaluated by using the Fugl-Meyer Test. Results: Both types of intervention showed statistically higher functional change scores. Rivermead and Fugl-Meyer scores were higher (p = 0.01) for subjects who received PT/AT and OT versus patients only receiving PT and TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation). Conclusion: We found an improvement in the upperlimb functional state of our patients with chronic stroke after combination of physical/aquatic therapy and occupational therapy. The application of this treatment combination proved to be more effective in restoring the function of the affected arm, inducing clinically meaningful functional improvement compared to the application of PT/AT therapy and TENS.

Umbul Brintik (Brintik Spring Water), located at Central Java Indonesia has a therapy pool mainly for sick people. There's this long age myth about the existence of a big tree near the pool said or believed to have magical effects for heal sick people. This has attracted many people to the pool. However, the fact still remains that the pool is maximally oxygenated by the photosynthesis process that occur on the leaves of the big tree. This research work was conducted in Umbul Brintik from March to April 2018. 45 persons at the pool were randomly chosen as samples. The research used a nonparametric statistical analysis test with SPSS. The interview reveals that there are 32.5% stroke patients, 27.3% diabetic patients, 13% HNP patients, 6.4% asthmatic people, and 20.3% others. These research made use of a protocol study based on observations, interviews, and documentation. There was a therapist with 6 years' experience who trained the local people. There was one main pool that was used for therapy, two whirlpools, and two recreational pools. The facilities includes a parking lot, lockers, and canteen serving traditional food. This study concludes that Umbul Brintik is a highly potential stroke therapy center.

Objetivo: Analisar a influência do Watsu na qualidade de vida e na dor de idosas com fibromialgia. Método: Realizou um estudo de intervenção, quase experimental, onde participaram 17 idosas com fibromialgia, com média de idade de 67,5±4,7 anos. Foi utilizado, pré e pós intervenção, o SF-36 para avaliação da qualidade de vida, e a Escala visual analógica para dor. O protocolo de intervenção foi a realização de 10 sessões de Watsu, sendo duas vezes por semana, com duração de 40 minutos cada. Resultados: ficou evidenciado aumento estatisticamente significativo na Capacidade Funcional (p=0,00445), Limitação por aspectos físicos (p=0,01347), Dor (p=0,00861), Vitalidade (p=0,00044), Limitação por aspectos emocionais (p=0,02019) Saúde mental (p=0,00748). Já a EVA, foi estatisticamente menor na segunda avaliação (p=0,00059). Conclusão: Foi possível verificar que o método Watsu proporcionou benefícios na redução da dor e melhora da qualidade de vida de idosas com de fibromialgia.
