A 3-D metal–organic framework with a rutile topology network, right- or left- handed helical chains and tunable UV-to-visible photoluminescence

Abstract: A solvothermally synthesized 3-D Cd(ii) metal–organic framework with rutile topology was found containing right- or left- handed helices in its structure, and emitting tunable UV-to-visible photoluminescence.

“…The latter imposes that emissions below the global maximum (365−435 nm) occur preferentially upon excitation with the 354 nm line, whereas those in the 440−600 nm range need a higher excitation energy (λ ex = 332 nm). A similar dependence was found for the related [Cd 3 (SO 4 ) 2 (μ 3 -6ani) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ] n compound, 15 for which phosphorescent behavior is not reported. With the aim of getting a deeper insight into the intriguing PL performance of 1, timedependent DFT (TD-DFT) calculations were carried out on a suitable model of 1, which consists of an excerpt containing the cadmium atom and the four 6ani ligands coordinated to it (Figure S12).…”

“…The rtl net is a common occurrence in the assembly of (3,6)-connected nets . In this work, two rtl nets ( 1 and 2 ) were hydrothermally prepared from the reaction of L-H and L-CH 3 with Co(NO 3 ) 2 , respectively.…”

“…According to the RCSR database, at least 20 (3,6)-connected nets have been reported, such as rtl , pyr , qom , anh , ant , and other topological nets . One of the representative (3,6)-connected networks is the rtl network, which presents the topological structure of the inorganic compound rutile (TiO 2 ), and the Schläfli symbol is (4·6 2 ) 2 (4 2 ·6 10 ·8 3 ). , The ant network is one of the few (3,6)-connected networks reported so far, presenting the topology of the inorganic compound anatase (TiO 2 ), and the Schläfli symbol is (4 2 ·6) 2 (4 4 ·6 2 ·8 8 ·10). , The anh (flu-3, 6- P 6 2 2 2 ) network is a rarely observed (3,6)-connected chiral network with a Schlaf̈li symbol of (4 2 ·6) 2 (4 4 ·6 2 ·8 8 ·10) . Notably, the anh net is a hexagonal anatense framework, which has the same point symbol as ant net but different long vertex symbols.…”
