A 1-μT extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field vs. sham control for mild-to-moderate hypertension: a double-blind, randomized study

Abstract: The effects of extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMFs) on blood pressure (BP) are controversial. In this double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled study, we examined the effects of repeated exposure to a 1-lT ELF-EMF on BP in 20 humans with mild-to-moderate hypertension. Subjects were randomly assigned to either the ELF-EMF group or the sham group. Subjects in the ELF-EMF group were exposed to an ELF-EMF (6-and 8 Hz, respectively, peak magnetic field 1 lT, peak electric field 10 V m À1 ) for … Show more

“…We further reported that fluorescence by luciferine-luciferase reaction is generated without adding bioenergy material (adenosine triphosphate, ATP) in ultrapure water applied with pulsed magnetic field (6 Hz, 10 mG) for 40 h, and Ca 2+ flow between CHO bio cell films without ATP [5]. In addition, we reported that the medical statistics trial result demonstrates that high blood pressure of subject group is reduced by exposure to magnetic field (6 Hz, 10 mG) for 10 min [6]. In summary, we concluded that, in body applied with ELF small magnetic field, it is possible that free protons are generated in cell water and mitochondria promote the generation of ATP.…”

“…These bottles were located at a height of 1 m from the floor of the room. To generate ELF magnetic field (1,6,8,13,40 Hz), a single coil (diameter: 140 mm, number of turns: 100 turns, coil width: 15 mm) was placed at a height of 3 cm from the bottom of the bottle, and the coil was directly connected to function generator and magnetic field was applied to the bottle, where the amplitude of ac magnetic field with squared wave perpendicular to coil surface center was set to 100 mG (10 μT). To fabricate the group of magnetized sintered spheres, olivine powders were first molded into spheres (diameter: 10 mm), sintered for 3 h at 1300°C, then magnetized using NdFeB magnet.…”

“…A double-blind, repeated study explored the effect of ELF-EMFs on heart rate (HR) and HR variability and found a reduction in HR caused by the possible enhancement of parasympathetic predominance by short-term EMF (Binboga et al, 2021 ). Another study exposed mild-to-moderate hypertension patients to 1 μT ELF-EMF and observed a blood pressure-lowering effect (Nishimura et al, 2011 ). The phenomenon of EMF-related vasodilation and microcirculation was also detected clinically (Kondo et al, 2019 ).…”

“…We may assume that the back MCG reflects the Ca 2+ flow (electric current) into the muscle cells membrane showing a pulse time lag against the pulse action potential as observed in Figures 12(a), 12(b), and 12(c). A magnetic stimulation in Figure 12(c) is application of an extremely low frequency (ELF) small magnetic field used in the Magneto-Protonics principle [22][23][24], in which the small ELF magnetic field is predicted to elevate a production rate of the adenosinetriphosphate (ATP) in smooth muscle cells and promote the blood flow.…”
