9.1: Invited Paper: Turning Points in Mobile Display Development

Abstract: Recent mobile displays have encountered a turning point in market trends as well as in technology requirements. Mobile displays are rapidly shifting to larger sizes, higher resolution (>300ppi), wider viewing angles, higher contrast, and integration with touch functionality. All of this has caused a generation change in mobile display architecture and technologies. This paper will address those revolutions and Chimei Innolux (CMI)'s approach.

“…For example, the aperture ratio of UHD has approximately 65% of the Full HD aperture ratio. [2] Therefore, the studies of high transmittance have focused on the manufacturing technologies to reduce the width of gate and data lines and the material development to improve the mobility of transistors in order to shrink the area of the transistor and extend the aperture area of the pixel [3]. And many researchers also have studied for new types of LC modes and wall electrode LCDs for high transmittance and high resolution LCDs.…”
