Background: Periapical radiographic x-ray exposure can damage living cells, one of which is erythrocytes which contain hemoglobin by forming free radicals. Antioxidant compounds are needed to counteract the effects of these free radicals. One of the natural antioxidant compounds is kasturi leaves which contain flavonoids, triterpenoids and tannins. Purpose: To analyze the effect of kasturi leaf extract on hemoglobin levels of male mice exposed to periapical x-ray radiography. Methods: This study used a true experimental method with a post test only design with a control group design. The samples used were 24 male mice aged 3-4 months which weighed 20-25 grams. Mice were divided into 4 groups, each group consisted of 6 mice. Group P1 was a group exposed to radiation 1 times a dose of 1 mGy with a dose of 0,2 ml of kasturi leaf extract, group P2 was a group exposed to radiation 7 times a dose of 1 mGy with a dose of 0,2 ml of kasturi leaf extract, Group P3 was a group exposed to radiation 10 times at a dose of 1 mGy with a dose of 0,2 ml of kasturi leaf extract, and group P4 was a group given the extract without radiation exposure. Results: The results showed hemoglobin levels in the P1 group = 7.2833 g/dL, the P2 group = 7.4800 g/dL, the P3 group = 12.7800 g/dL, and P4 = 12.4200 g/dL. Conclusion: The results showed that there was an effect of kasturi leaf extract on the hemoglobin levels of male mice exposed to periapical x-ray radiography. The results of the Mann Whitney test showed that the results of the P1 and P2 groups were significant to P3 and P4. Keywords: Antioxidant, kasturi leaf extract, periapical radiography

Background: Goat milk kefir is a functional food with numerous health benefits, including blood sugar control, cholesterol reduction, and improved digestive health. This study aims to determine the effect of kefir consumption on blood glucose levels in hyperglycaemic mice (Mus musculus) without affecting another blood chemistry. This study compared goat milk kefir products to other processed milk products considered to be capable of controlling and reducing blood sugar levels. Objective:This study aimed to compare goat milk kefir products to other processed food products considered to be capable of controlling and reducing blood sugar levels.Methods: Twenty-one mice, as experimental animals, were induced for 21 days with the high-fat and high fructose diet to increase blood sugar levels. After induction, mice were divided into 3 groups according to treatment, namely oral administration of additional distilled water (placebo), diabetasol® (positive control), and goat's milk kefir with each group consisting of 9 individuals. Results: Treatment showed significant effect on the blood glucose and β-ketone level. Diabetasol® and Goat kefir supplemented mice had a lower blood glucose level than control (p < 0.05) and goat kefir supplemented mice had lower blood β-ketone level than control and Diabetasol® (p< 0.05). Meanwhile, hematocrit and hemoglobin levels did not show significant differences between treatments.Conclusion: The results suggested that goat milk kefir has preclinical potential as an antihyperglycemic functional food without affecting other blood chemistry profiles.Keywords: Antihyperglycemic, blood sugar, goat kefir

Cigarette smoke harmful for body, including secondhand smoker. Chemical contain in cigarette smoke can increase free radicals, and decreasing the level of erythrocytes and hematocrit. Kenikir usually eaten raw as lalap. Flavonoid in kenikir has many health benefit such as anti-inflammatory activity and improving blood circulation. This study aims to determine the effect of kenikirleaves on erythrocytes and hematocrit of the blood of secondhand smoker's rat. The samples were divided into 3 groups (the control group and the treatment group 1 and 2). Each group consists of 10 male Wistar rats, the control group was only given the exposure of cigarette smoke, while the treatment group 1 and 2 were given the exposure to cigarette smoke by giving kenikir leaves at a dose of 4.5 grams and 6.3 grams. Blood sampling was carried out on days 0, 7 and 14 through the retro-orbitalis sinus using the Hematocrit capillary, collected into the microtube then measuring the blood sample parameters using the Hematology Analyzer Sysmex KX-21®. Data were analyzed with One Way Anova test, and posthoc the DMRT. There was a significant effect between the control group against the treatment group 1 and 2 (p<0.05). there were no significant differences between kenikir leaves groups with a dose of 4.5 grams and 6.3 in increasing red blood cell profile (p<1.00). There was significant effect of kenikir leaf on erythrocytes and hematocrit profile at a dose of 4.5 gram and 6.3 gram.
