Potato biodiversity: A linear discriminant analysis on the nutritional and physicochemical composition of fifty genotypes

Abstract: Fifty potato genotypes from twenty-four different countries of origin, four different flesh colours (yellow, purple, red and marble) and different cultivation types (Andean accessions, landraces, breeder lines and cultivated varieties) were studied in terms of their nutritional and physicochemical characteristics. In general, cultivated varieties and breeder lines showed the highest similarity (slight differences only in some particular fatty acids distributions: C10:0, C12:0 and C22:0) concerning the physicoc… Show more

“…Sensor responses were then processed with the phase space entire (PSE) feature extraction technique followed by the Fisher discriminant analysis (FDA) to discriminate and differentiate the exact concentration of acetone in synthetic breath in presence of different levels of interferences. In phase space, the time course of any system is described by time parametric trajectories, which contains the dynamic characteristics of the system [67–71] …”

“…A wide spectrum of multivariate methods is available in order to extract information from the data sets obtained in different nutritional and biochemical studies. Many authors have used these to distinguish the origin of food samples, to distinguish patients according to their health status, to evaluate dietary influence on microbiome, to identify the best way of feeding, or to evaluate different genomic, proteomic, lipidomic or metabolomic results [ 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 ]. A similar approach was applied by Aparicio et al, who applied multiple linear regression to assess the association between the socioeconomic and maternal lifestyle factors and fatty acid profile in serum of Spanish women.…”

“…They are related to the defense system of plants, being induced under conditions of abiotic stress (light and heat stress, water and nutrient deficit), biotic stress (attack by hebivores and microorganisms) or non-stress conditions (increase in leaf temperature, nutrient transport and regulation of osmotic balance) [65]. They are water-soluble compounds belonging to the flavonoid family, responsible for giving intense colors to fruits and flowers, while they are commonly used for culinary purposes as natural colorants [61,[66][67][68][69]. There are many health benefits associated with the consumption of foods rich in anthocyanins, such as improvement in eye health, protection against cardiovascular diseases, anti-obesity and antidiabetic effects, and antimicrobial, anticancer or neuroprotective properties [70].…”
