1988 Compilation of Elemental Concentration Data for USGS Geochemical Exploration Reference Materials GXR‐1 to GXR‐6

Abstract: Concentration data on 73 individual constituents in United States Geological Survey (USGS) Geochemical Exploration Reference Materials GXR‐1 to GXR‐6 have been collected from 131 journal articles and technical reports. These data are summarized as consensus (mean) values with uncertainties expressed as one standard deviation. Mean values are also calculated as a function of analytical procedure and all raw data are given in the tables. Recommended values are proposed based upon data criteria used by NIST (Nati… Show more

“…Solid phase sample collection and handling was similar to earlier work [Zierenberg et al, 1995]. Hg concentration of solid samples was measured using atomic vapor Hg analyzer calibrated using USGS GXR-2 reference standard soil [Gladney and Roelandts, 1988].…”

“…HF and HClO 4 were fumed off, and the residues were dissolved in 10 mL of 1% HNO 3 . We prepared seven blank digestions only applying the acids; we digested five blank filters as well as the two certified geochemical reference materials USGS GXR-2 24 and IAEA SL-1 25 for three times each. We analyzed the acidified water samples and the filter digestions with an X-Series 2 ICP-MS (Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.).…”

“…The samples (2 kg) were stored in Table 2 Arithmetic mean (above) and geometric mean (in italics, below) of trace element concentrations for the different data sets, See Figs, 1 and 2 for location of samples, For statistical calculations a concentration half of that of the detection limit (DL/2) was assigned to the elements with concentrations below DL (e,g" Singh and Nocerino 2002) . Quality control at the Actlabs laboratories is done by analyzing duplicate samples and blanks to check precision, whereas accuracy is obtained by using certified standards (GXR series; e.g., Gladney and Roelandts, 1990). 4.1 /., 2.1…”
