Serum concentration of vascular endothelial growth factor and depth of trophoblastic invasion in ampullary ectopic pregnancy

Abstract: OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the association between the depth of trophoblastic infiltration and serum vascular endothelial growth factorconcentration in patients with an ampullary pregnancy.METHODS:This prospective cross-sectionalstudy involved 34 patients with an ampullary ectopic pregnancy who underwent salpingectomy between 2012 and 2013. Maternal serum vascular endothelial growth factor concentrations were measured using Luminex technology. Trophoblastic invasion was classified histologically as follows: stage I… Show more

“…These result also show agreement with Zou et al [21] study which published in 2013 showed that Individual measurements of serum VEGF levels is strongly related to early pregnancy outcomes for women with IUP and EP, and pregnancy associated VEGF level provide diagnostic accuracy for the presence of tubal EP. Furthermore, , Cabar et al [22] study which conducted in 2013 in Brazil and included 34 patients with an ampullary ectopic pregnancy showed an increase in the depth of trophoblastic penetration into the tubal wall associated with increasing maternal serum VEGF concentration. Flora Saghafi et al [23] 98 Kirkuk Journal of Medical Sciences -Volume 10/ Issue 2/ 2022 study also showed agreement with present study which found serum VEGF levels could be of great help in differentiating tubal pregnancy from normal pregnancy with appropriate sensitivity and specificity.…”

“…In the analysis, the authors of this work used term of sensitivity and specificity and not on a quantitative level, but on a qualitative one [8]. In work Cabar F. R. et al the relationship between the depth of trophoblastic infiltration, divided into stages, and the concentration of serum vascular endothelial growth factor in patients with an ampullary ectopic pregnancy, was determined [9]. On the basis of the ROC curves, the boundary values of this endothelial growth factor were determined and then, using parameters sensitivity and specificity, they evaluated the effectiveness of isolating stage III from the first and second for this factor, namely, the concentration of endothelial growth factor.…”

“…59 Furthermore, the depth of trophoblast penetration into the tubal wall is negatively associated with the concentration of serum VEGF. 60 VEGF and its receptors (VEGFRs) were expressed in all sections of the Fallopian tubes, including the fimbria, ampulla, and isthmus. VEGF and VEGFRs were downregulated in the Fallopian tubes with tubal pregnancy compared with the normal Fallopian tubes of pseudo-pregnant women.…”
