“…A follicular neoplasm was found in 2 cases, which were later diagnosed as PTC with tissue biopsy. Campos et al [29] have stated that nodule size is not related to PTC development in patients with HT. Although due to the low number of patients with malignancy it is not possible to debate statistical significance in our study, we believe that characteristics indicating malignancy such as microcalcification on nodule ultrasonography are more important than nodule diameter for thyroid nodules developing on an HT background.…”

“…The percentage of coexistence of these two diseases in the histopathological material of thyroidectomised patients varies from 8.6 to 39%. [5,9,10,11,16,17,18,19,20] Two meta-analyses report a percentage of approximately 27% [2,12]. The varying incidence rates of PTC in HT may be due to several factors such as different diagnostic criteria for HT, various surgical procedures and heterogeneous patient characteristics [1].…”

“…In this study, the observation was based on the hypothesis of correlation of PTC with HT. [2] Up to now, there is controversy in the literature regarding the association between PTC and HT [1,2,5,6,[9][10][11][12][13][14][15].…”

“…Campos LAAF, et al, 13 studied three hundred and fifteen thyroidectomies, of which forty one were papillary carcinomas and forty five were nodular goitres. Of the remaining two hundred twenty nine cases, chronic thyroiditis was reported in 12.25% cases.…”
