Papillary thyroid carcinoma in Hashimoto’s thyroiditis as an incidental finding

Abstract

Background:The association between Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), although documented worldwide, still remains a subject of debate among scientists. The aim of this study is to investigate the incidence of papillary thyroid carcinoma in Hashimoto's thyroiditis as an incidental finding based on the histopathological specimens of patients submitted to total thyroidectomy for benign conditions of the thyroid gland.
