This study investigated the impact of the coach-athlete relationship (CAR) on the collective efficacy (CE) of young volleyball players. The sample consisted of 185 athletes from male and female teams participating in the Under-18 Paraná Championship. The Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire and Collective Efficacy Questionnaire for Sports were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman's correlation test, and uni-and multivariate simple regression (p<0.05). The results showed that medalists scored higher in all dimensions of CE (ability, effort, persistence, preparation, and unity) and perceived themselves closer and more committed to the coach than non-medalists (p<0.05). The CAR had a significant and moderate impact on the medalist and non-medalist perception of CE (p<0.05). It can be concluded that CAR is an important condition for the perception of CE in young volleyball players, irrespective of team performance. Resumo -Este estudo investigou o impacto da qualidade do relacionamento treinador-atleta (RTA) na percepção da eficácia coletiva (EC) de jovens atletas de voleibol. Foram sujeitos 185 atletas das equipes masculinas e femininas participantes do Campeonato Paranaense Sub-18 2014. Como instrumentos, foram utilizados o Questionário de Relacionamento Treinador--Atleta/Versão Atleta e o Questionário de Eficácia Coletiva para o Esporte. Na análise dos dados, utilizaram-se o teste "U" de Mann-Whitney, a correlação de Spearman e a Regressão (p<0,05). Os resultados evidenciaram que os atletas medalhistas apresentaram maior nível em todas as dimensões de EC (Habilidade, Esforço, Persistência, União e Preparação) e se perceberam mais próximos e comprometidos com o treinador em comparação aos atletas não medalhistas (p<0,05). O RTA apresentou impacto significativo e moderado na percepção de EC tanto dos atletas medalhistas quanto dos não medalhistas (p<0,05). Concluiu-se que o RTA pode ser considerado uma condição importante da percepção de EC para atletas juvenis de voleibol independente do nível de desempenho das equipes. “…To measure coaches’ and athletes’ direct perspective of their social relationships, we adopted the Portuguese version of the Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire (Vieira et al, 2015 athlete version – α > 0.70; Contreira et al, 2019 coach version – α = 0.86). Basic Psychological Needs and Sports Satisfaction Among Brazilian Athletes and Coaches: The Mediating Role of the Dyadic Relationship

Even though sport satisfaction has proved an important element for youngsters to keep practicing sports, little is known on the sport satisfaction of coaches. Moreover, the coach-athlete relationship is acknowledged as a key element for sport success, but whether its importance is the same for coaches and athletes is yet to be investigated. Our study analyzed the mediating role of the coach-athlete relationship in associating the satisfaction of basic psychological needs and sport satisfaction of Brazilian coaches and athletes. 364 coaches and athletes participated in the study representing 182 dyads from different sports according to the following instruments: Basic Needs Satisfaction Sport Scale (BNSSS), Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire, athlete and coach versions (CART-Q), and the Athletic Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASQ). Data analysis followed a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with a significance level of p < 0.05, generating results in which the mediating model for coaches was not adequately fit, while the direct model, without mediation, was adequately fit and explained 48% of sport satisfaction variance. For athletes, the mediating model has shown adequate fit and explained 81% of the sport satisfaction variance, leading us to conclude that the quality of the coach-athlete relationship can be considered a determining factor for the satisfaction of young Brazilian athletes’ basic psychological needs as well as sport satisfaction, but proved not as relevant to their coaches.

Background: Within the 3Cs (closeness, commitment, and complementarity) theoretical framework of the quality of two-person relationships, a coach–athlete relationship quality questionnaire (CART-Q) was developed and validated to assess the nature of the coach–athlete relationship. In this study, a modified version of the CART-Q for physical education (PE) was adapted to assess the teacher–student relationship quality in the PE context in Turkey and Kuwait. The purpose of this study was to examine the factorial validity of the teacher–student relationship quality questionnaire (TSRQ-PE) within a sample of Turkish and Kuwaiti physical education teachers. Methods: Multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) was used to test the measurement of cultural invariance between these two groups. A total of 175 teachers from Turkey (n = 73) and Kuwait (n = 102) completed the TPRQ-PE. Results: MGCFA supported the factorial validity of the TPRQ-PE in a three first-order factor model across the two countries. Overall, these results add evidence to the psychometric properties of the TPRQ-PE and suggest that this instrument can be applied to measure the quality of the teacher–student relationship within Turkey and Kuwait, although caution may be required when applied to drawing comparisons between these two counties. Conclusions: The results of the present study could help physical educators and researchers in this field to understand the reasons and methods that lead to a quality teacher–student relationship.
