Evaluation of the Concentration of Cu, Zn, Pb and Cr in Different Fish Species from the São Gonçalo Channel in Pelotas-RS, Brazil

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the concentration of Cu, Zn, Cr and Pb in different species of fish collected in the estuarine and limnic regions of the São Gonçalo channel, located in the Patos-Mirim lagoon complex in the coastal plain of Rio Grande do Sul State (Southern Brazil) during 2013 (autumn, winter and spring) and 2014 (summer). Fish samples were decomposed in a digester block with a reflux system under conditions optimized using a central composite design as it follows: 250 mg of fish sa… Show more

“…In addition, a shorter reading time (300 s) was used by the proposed TXRF method. Besides, our LODs were improved in comparison with the detection limits obtained by the flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) [18] and energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) [13].…”

“…Furthermore, one of the most successful ways to obtain valuable information about the interaction of heavy metals with marine organisms is the determination of their concentrations in different seasons of the year, allowing the environmental biomonitoring. Thus, taking into account the above, different analytical techniques have been used with this purpose, such as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) [15], inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) [16, 17], graphite furnace-atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS) [18], square wave anodic voltammetry (SWASV) [19], electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) [20], hydride generation coupled to atomic absorption spectrometry (HG-AAS) [21], atomic fluorescence spectrometry coupled to the hydride generation (HG-AFS) [22], energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) [13], and the total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF) spectroscopy [23].…”

“…The matrix modification technique using chemical modifiers is a very important feature in the concept of trace metal determinations with very minimal interference. The chemical forms and therefore the physical properties of the element studied or the matrix can be changed by the addition of a suitable reagent (matrix modifier) in excess to the sample and standard reference solutions [ 36 , 65 , 66 , 67 , 68 ].…”
