Role of testosterone to estradiol ratio in predicting the efficacy of recombinant human chorionic gonadotropin and testosterone treatment in male hypogonadism

Abstract: Objective: We aimed to investigate the role of testosterone to estradiol ratio in predicting the effectiveness of human chorionic gonadotropin and testosterone treatments in male hypogonadism. Materials and methods: Thirty-six male patients with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism were included in the study. Seventeen (47.2%) patients received weekly recombinant human choriogonadotropin alpha (hCG) treatment (group-1) and 19 (52.8%) received testosterone replacement therapy (T treatment) every 21 days (group-2). Und… Show more

“…For testicular volume, three studies performed statistical analyses comparing the change in testicular volume induced by hCG and by testosterone, and all three found that hCG induced a greater increase in testicular volume ( Tables S6 and S7 ). 37 , 51 , 52 One of these studies also found that hCG was superior to testosterone with regard to spermatogenesis. 52 Five studies compared the utility of hCG + hMG versus GnRH; three found no significant difference in testicular volume between groups, one found an inconsistent effect, and one found that GnRH was superior.…”
