We present a checklist of ferns and lycophytes from Parque Estadual Mata das Flores, a state park located in Castelo, Espírito Santo, Brazil. The park has an area of 800 ha, and its main vegetation is composed of dry forest (at 150-500 m elev.), and a small portion of wet forest (500-700 m), within the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest biome. We found 83 taxa, including 75 species, 3 varieties, 4 putative hybrids, and 1 cultivar. Among these, 17 are newly recorded from the Espírito Santo. Twenty-five taxa are endemic to the Atlantic Forest biome, and 5 are endemic to southeastern Brazil, and 2 are narrow endemics to the states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. Anemia blechnoides is the only vulnerable species found, according to the national red list. We found 4 naturalized species. Among the hybrids, 3 are reported for the first time in literature (Blechnum asplenioides × B. glandulosum, Campyloneurum decurrens × C. repens, and Doryopteris collina × D. lorentzii) and 1 for the first time in Brazil (B. glandulosum × B. polypodioides).

A survey of ferns and lycophytes of the Coastal Region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (CRRS) was performed based on fi eld work and collections of the main regional herbaria. Th e following were evaluated for each species: preferential habits (terrestrial, epiphytic or aquatic), geographic distribution patterns and habitats (forest, grassland, and wetland). Th e occurrence of a latitudinal gradient in diversity was tested over fi ve latitudinal ranges using the Sørensen Similarity Index. A total of 17 lycophyte and 206 fern species representing 28 families was found between the latitudes of 29° and 34°S. Exclusively terrestrial species were predominant (162), with the majority (113) exhibiting wide Neotropical distributions, followed by species that also occurred in the state of Paraná (44). Th e forest habitat harbored the greatest number of species (159), while grasslands had the fewest (26). Cluster analysis showed pronounced fl oristic diff erentiation among latitudinal Ranges III (31°01' to 32°S) and IV (32°01' to 31°S), with a similarity index of only 0.41. Our results demonstrate a strong north-to-south reduction in species richness in the study area, which is related to environmental conditions along the latitudinal gradient and, especially, microclimatic diff erences in the transition zone between the Atlantic Forest and Pampa biomes.

-(Lycophytes and monilophytes from Unidades de Conservação da Usina Hidroelétrica -UHE Tucuruí, Pará, Brazil). This work presents a survey of lycophytes and monilophytes in the Conservation Unit named Zonas de Preservação da Vida Silvestre da Usina Hidrelétrica de Tucuruí, Pará State, Brazil. This Conservation Unit is located at southeastern Pará and comprises about 29,700 ha, composed mainly of tropical rainforest. Our results recorded 18 families, 37 genera and 82 species. The richest family is Pteridaceae, with 21 species, and Adiantum is the richest genus, with 14 species. Three species are new records for Pará State: Didymoglossum ovale, Danaea nodosa, and Pecluma hygrometrica. Furthermore, two new species were identified. One has already been described, Thyelypteris amazonica. The other new species belongs to the genus Adiantum and shall be published soon. The floristic richness of the area, associated with the taxonomic novelties, attests for its biological importance and for the necessity of increasing the efforts on research and conservation of the study area. O presente estudo refere-se às espécies de licófitas e monilófitas ocorrentes nas Zonas de Preservação da Vida Silvestre da Usina Hidroelétrica de Tucuruí, Estado do Pará, Brasil. A área de estudo localiza-se na região sudeste do Pará, com cerca de 29.700 hectares, composta, predominantemente, por floresta ombrófila aberta. Os dados obtidos demonstraram a ocorrência de 18 famílias, 37 gêneros e 82 espécies. A família com maior riqueza de espécies é Pteridaceae (21 spp.) e o gênero mais representativo é Adiantum com 14 espécies. Três espécies são novas referências para o Pará: Didymoglossum ovale, Danaea nodosa e Pecluma hygrometrica. Além disso, duas espécies novas foram identificados, uma delas já descrita, Thyelypteris amazonica. A outra espécie pertence a Adiantum e será publicada em breve. A riqueza florística da área, associada com as novidades taxonômicas, atesta a sua importância biológica e aponta para a necessidade de aumentar os esforços em pesquisa e conservação da área estudada.
