Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the presence of antibodies against Neospora caninum, Toxoplasma gondii and Leishmania infantum in dogs attended at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Piauí, Northeastern Brazil, where there are no reports of the occurrence of N. caninum and T. gondii in dogs. “…et al prevalence was between 76.40% in Monte Negro-RO and 18.00% in Teresina-PI. In Paraná State, prevalences of 54.80% in Port Figueira, and 50.89% and 20.60% in two distinct studies in Londrina (18,(23)(24)(25)(26) were reported. The titers of antibodies against T. gondii detected in these dogs suggest the chronic phase of infection.…”

“…Although these variables are related, the analysis was performed independently, since there were 49 dogs that although domiciled, had contact with stray dogs in the backyard of their houses. The lower prevalence in dogs at less than one year of age may be associated with shorter length of exposure to sources of T.gondii infection, as referred by several authors worldwide (5,24,27,(30)(31)(32) .…”

“…Estudos recentes no Brasil mostram uma variação na frequência de soropositividade para T. gondii em cães de 11,50% a 88,52% (16)(17)(18)(19)(20)(21) . Essa variação de resultados pode estar relacionada às diferentes técnicas utilizadas e pontos de corte.…”

“…may enhance the susceptibility of dogs to N. caninum infection (CRINGOLI et al, 2002). Serological surveys correlating N. caninum and Leishmania spp., had been conducted ANDREOTTI et al, 2006;GUIMARÃES et al, 2009;GRECA et al, 2010;VALADAS et al, 2010a;LOPES et al, 2011;PAULAN et al, 2013;SEABRA et al, 2015;CONSTANTINO et al, 2016). In dogs from endemic cities of visceral leishmaniosis such as Araçatuba, SP , Campo Grande, MS (ANDREOTTI et al, 2006), and Teresina, PI (LOPES et al, 2011), positive association was found (Table 3).…”
