Frequência De Anticorpos Anti-Toxoplasma Gondii Em Cães Com Sinais Clínicos Compatíveis Com Toxoplasmose

Abstract: Abstract:The aim of this study was to detect antibodies against T. gondii in dogs with clinical signs compatible with toxoplasmosis attended in a veterinary hospital. A serological survey was performed in 598 dogs from 1993 to 2013. The IgG antibodies survey against T. gondii was carried out by means of Indirect Fluorescence Antibodies Test (IFAT); samples with titers ≥16 were considered positive. Among the dogs with clinical signs, 259 (43,31%) were positive for T. gondii with titers varying between 16 to 409… Show more

“…Toxoplasma gondii seroprevalence in dogs from Foz do Iguaçu county (67.02%) is close to the upper limit found in Paraná in the last decade: 10.3% and 70.85% (DREER et al, 2013;CALDART et al, 2015;FERREIRA et al, 2016). Even though no epidemiological variables were statistically associated with this high prevalence, dogs that did not have access to the street, slept in the house and has a defined breed showed a higher frequency in the IFAT methodology.…”

“…To IFAT, the methodology was done according Camargo (1964), where tachyzoites of RH strain were used as antigen, and in each slide positive and negative controls were used. Samples with titers ≥16 were considered positive (FERREIRA et al, 2016) and were diluted at a ratio four until the titer was negative. The results of the two tests were merged to analysis.…”

“…Infection by T. gondii in dogs is most often asymptomatic and may result in neurological changes in immunosuppressed animals (MORETTI et al, 2002;SILVA et al, 2009). Ferreira et al (2016) observed higher frequency of neurological signs (p < 0.0001) such as seizures, ataxia, paresis, and plegias as compared with ophthalmic, reproductive, and respiratory signs.…”
