Implantação da Escala de Braden em uma unidade de terapia intensiva de um hospital universitário

Abstract: This is a prospective and longitudinal study which aimed to introduce the Braden Scale (BS) as an instrument to predict the risk of pressure ulcer (PU), and to analyze the results of its use in an intensive care unit. The sample was of 74 patients and the data were obtained by an instrument containing BS. Such data were analyzed by a simple descriptive statistic. 58 patients (78.37%) had a score < or = 13 and PU incidence of 25.67%. In 45 patients (60.80%), BS was daily filled in. From these patients, 5 (11.10… Show more

“…More recently, in 2012, one of the same authors found 23.1% incidence after the implementation of a prevention protocol, which is still very high, despite a significant reduction (4) . Triggering or risk factors are associated with the development of PU (22)(23)(24) . In a retrospective study using 222 medical charts of patients with different diseases who were submitted to surgeries lasting more than two hours, the authors related the development of PU to factors that affected tissue perfusion, like hypertension and diabetes (25) .…”

“…Today, nursing professionals are more and more encouraged to identify risk factors early and explore them scientifically. The literature shows that more risk factors have to be recognized and analyzed in specific populations, so that care plans can be better developed (20)(21)(22)(23) . The risk factors found in this study are also confirmed partly by the results of other studies, which identified age above 69 years, ICU period above eight days (28) ; being of the white race as risk factors.…”
