Importância atribuída ao sexo por idosos do município de Porto Alegre e associação com a autopercepção de saúde e o sentimento de felicidade

Objective: to identify the perception of elderly persons about sexuality. Methods: a quantitative, observational and analytical cross-sectional study was performed in an institution specializing in elderly care in Belém, in the state of Pará. A questionnaire, produced by the authors, was applied to 200 elderly persons, aiming to identify issues related to sexuality both in their youth and today, as well as stimulant strategies and sexuality inhibiting factors among the elderly, among other issues. Data was statistically analyzed through the G-Test for adherence. Results: The researched elderly had an average age of 72 (±5.92) years. The majority said they were not prepared for the beginning of sexual activity when young (62.5%), and had little knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases or methods of preventing them (42.3%). Today, the majority (84%) did not understand the distinction between sexuality and sex, even though most (69.5%) believed that they can stimulate their own sexuality. They also identified family (16.5%) and religion (15.5%) as inhibitory factors for their sexuality. A total of 28.5% of those interviewed reported having a sexual dysfunction and more than half (52.5%) did not seek medical support. They believed that health professionals are prepared to deal with the issue, although such professionals are almost the last information source consulted (17.5%) in relation to sexuality. Conclusion: many factors support the myth that older people are asexual: limited access to information from their youth to the present day, the physiological changes connected to aging itself, religious precepts and family oppression. However, further studies and actions directed at this population are important to promote the health of the elderly.

Incontinência urinária e noctúria: prevalência e impacto sobre qualidade de vida em idosas numa Unidade Básica de Saúde

Objetivos: estimar a prevalência de incontinência urinária e de seus subtipos (incontinência urinária de esforço, bexiga hiperativa e incontinência mista), a prevalência do sintoma de noctúria, e avaliar o impacto dessas condições sobre a qualidade de vida na população de idosas atendida para vacinação numa Unidade Básica de Saúde de Niterói-RJ. Métodos: estudo observacional descritivo, com utilização das versões brasileiras do International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire - Short Form e do King's Health Questionnaire, respectivamente, para triagem de mulheres com incontinência urinária e para avaliar o impacto da incontinência urinária e da noctúria sobre a qualidade de vida. Participaram do estudo 66 mulheres. Resultados: a média das idades foi de 69,6±7,2 anos. Com o International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire - Short Form, a prevalência de incontinência urinária foi de 42,4%, sendo que 42,9% das idosas incontinentes referiram que a perda interferia nas suas atividades diárias. A prevalência de incontinência urinária de esforço, bexiga hiperativa e incontinência mista foi de 15,2%, 12,1% e 10,6%, respectivamente. Dentre as mulheres incontinentes, 20 aceitaram responder ao King's Health Questionnaire, tinham incontinência mista 11 delas (55%) e 16 apresentavam noctúria (80%). Houve comprometimento da qualidade de vida em todos os domínios. Conclusão: a prevalência de incontinência urinária foi elevada na população estudada. Com a utilização do questionário de triagem, a incontinência urinária de esforço foi o subtipo mais comum, ao passo que a utilização do questionário de avaliação de qualidade de vida mostrou prevalência mais elevada de incontinência mista. A frequência de noctúria foi estimada somente para as mulheres que responderam ao King's Health Questionnaire. Houve comprometimento da qualidade de vida em todos os domínios avaliados.

Quality of life and the health status of elderly persons: a population-based study in the central sertão of Ceará

Introduction: Healthy aging and quality of life has become a major desire of contemporary society. Understanding the profile of this population will allow the creation of more appropriate policies and actions for the promotion of health and quality of life. Objective: To map aspects related to health and quality of life as perceived by elderly residents of the city of Canindé, in the central sertão region of the state of Ceará. Method: A quantitative, cross-sectional, household-based study was performed. From a population of 5,214 elderly persons, proportional stratified sampling resulted in a sample of 372 individuals. A characterization questionnaire addressing sociodemographic characteristics and health status and the abbreviated version of WHOQOL were used. SPSS version 16.0 was used for descriptive and inferential statistics, adopting a significance level of 5%. Results: Most elderly individuals were female, married, brown skinned, aged 60 to 69 years old, with an incomplete primary education and an income of up to one minimum wage. Most of the elderly persons had attended 1-3 consultations/admissions in the last 12 months, and reported a high prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, anxiety and cardiovascular diseases, despite describing their health and quality of life as "good". In terms of quality of life, the psychological domain had the highest, and the environmental domain had the lowest mean score. Conclusions: The prevalent diseases/comorbidities belonged to the chronic non-communicable diseases group. The environmental domain negatively influenced overall quality of life, indicating the importance of environments that provide health promotion and quality of life for elderly people from rural regions.
