Effect of propolis extract on guines pig lung mast cell

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The direct effect of ethanolic extract of propolis on guinea pig lung cell suspension containing mast cells, as well as its influence on the histamine release induced by antigen (ovoalbumin 10 g/ml) and ionophore A 23187 (3 M) were investigated. Propolis ethanolic extract (300 g/ml) increased the histamine release in guinea pig lung suspension containing mast cells by a cytotoxic effect. Lower concentrations of propolis had no effect on histamine release. Our results demonstrated that propolis (3, 10,… Show more

“…Mirzoeva and Calder [54] showed that propolis and CAPE were very potent inhibitors of PG and leukotriene synthesis by murine peritoneal macrophages in vitro and during zymosan-induced acute peritoneal inflammation in vivo. Orsi et al [97] demonstrated that propolis at higher concentrations (300 mg/ml) directly activated mast cells, promoting the release of inflammatory mediators, which could be linked to allergic processes in propolissensitive individuals.…”

“…Ethanol and water extracts of propolis possess antiallergic action, inhibiting histamine release in rat peritoneal mast cells (Miyataka et al, 1998). However, in higher concentrations (300 g/ml), propolis directly activated mast cells, promoting inflammatory mediators release, what could be linked to allergic processes in propolis-sensitive individuals (Orsi et al, 2005b).…”
