Evaluation of tissue response to periodontal dressings: histological study in tooth sockets of rats

Abstract: Although the use of periodontal dressings is currently limited, there are some indications for their use. Selection of any material that will have direct contact with live tissues, such as periodontal dressings, should be careful in order to allow surgical wound healing. The aim of this study was to evaluate the intensity of inflammatory response and bone formation in tooth sockets of rats after implantation of three periodontal dressings. After removal of the right maxillary incisors of 84 male rats, each too… Show more

“…It has been noted that pure resin acids released from natural rosin are the main toxic compounds. In our study, the toxicity of Coe-Pak against HGF and Saos-2 cells became more apparent over time; this result was in agreement with the findings of several in vivo and in vitro studies [ 7 , 12 , 22 , 24 , 27 , 29 , 30 , 40 ].…”

“…Zinc oxide dressings containing eugenol have reported to have additional anaesthetic effects for pain reduction but may also induce contact allergies and risk of cytotoxicity at low and high dosages, respectively . Although eugenol‐free dressings had the intention to reduce those risks, an animal model reported an intense inflammatory reaction after dressing application when compared to the control group . On the other hand, cellulose‐based dressings have shown less inflammatory reactions and better patient compliance due improved aesthetics .…”
