RESUMO -É apresentado o primeiro inventário fl orístico de campos úmidos calcários de navalhal do Parque Nacional da Serra Bodoquena. Embora situados em maior parte na zona de amortecimento do Parque, essas formações monodominantes são essenciais na manutenção de recursos hídricos como o Rio Perdido. Foram amostradas quatro áreas de navalhal, na época seca e chuvosa. Foram encontradas 197 espécies, sendo 30 Cyperaceae, 29 Poaceae, 26 Asteraceae e 11 Fabaceae. A planta dominante é o capim-navalha Cladium jamaicence Crantz, com Chara rusbyana M.A.Howe na superfície do solo. Em pequenas lagoas e cursos d'água ocorrem Bacopa australis V.C.Souza, Chara spp., Eleocharis spp., Helianthium bolivianum (Rusby) Lehtonen & Myllys, Mayaca sellowiana Kunth, Nitella spp., Nymphaea gardneriana Planch. e Utricularia spp. Foram observadas poucas Melastomataceae. Drenagem foi a principal causa de alteração da vegetação.Palavras-chave: banhado alcalino, Cladium, fl ora aquática, áreas úmidas ABSTRACT -Flora of calcareous sawgrass marshes at Serra da Bodoquena. This is the fi rst inventory of the fl ora of brackish sawgrass marshes in the National Park of Serra da Bodoquena (Mato Grosso do Sul). Although occurring mostly on the Park buff ering zone, they are essential for maintaining water resources such as the Perdido river. We sampled four areas of sawgrass in the dry and rainy seasons. We recorded 197 species, being 30 Cyperaceae, 29 Poaceae, 26 Asteraceae and 11 Fabaceae. The dominant plant is the sawgrass Cladium jamaicence Crantz with Chara rusbyana M.A. Howe underneath. In puddles and streams Bacopa australis V.C. Souza, Chara spp., Eleocharis spp., Helianthium bolivianum (Rusby) Lehtonen & Myllys, Mayaca sellowiana Kunth, Nitella spp., Nymphaea gardneriana Planch. and Utricularia spp. are found. Few Melastomataceae were observed. Drainage was the main cause of vegetation change.

Floodplain lakes and associated wetlands in tropical dry climates are controlled by pronounced and severe seasonal hydrologic fluctuations. We examined the plant community response to a bimodal flooding pattern in the Zapatosa Floodplain Lake Complex (ZFLC), Northern Colombia. We measured floristic and quantitative change in four sampling periods emphasizing seasonal differences in plant abundance and life-form structure. Of 79 species identified in the lake complex, 52 were used to characterize eight community types via classification and ordination procedures. Results showed that community structure does not change significantly during the flooding/receding stages. But maximum drawdown phase significantly disrupts the aquatic community structure and the exposed shorelines become colonized by ruderal terrestrial plants. Early rainfalls at the beginning of the wet season are emphasized as an important feature of plant regeneration and community development. The general strategy of the ZFLC vegetation can be framed into the flood pulse concept of river-floodplain systems. Thus, plant communities are mainly responding to disturbances and destruction events imposed by extreme water level fluctuations. Rev. Biol. Trop. 62 (3): 1073-1097. Plant and animal life of this particular system are adapted to the seasonal variations in space and time caused by extreme water level fluctuations. This seasonality also represents an important factor in the speciation of several aquatic and wetland plants (Haynes & Holm-Nielsen, 1989). The dynamic character of these systems gives rise to complex primary and secondary production processes that are difficult to predict in detail, but nutrient input from rivers and streams are important in general, as a significant contribution can be expected following rainfall from the surrounding watershed. Nutrient cycling proceeds mainly through heterotrophic processes via bacteria, fungi, micro-zooplankton and shreddinginvertebrates (Melack & Fisher, 1990;Wantzen, Yule, Mathooko, & Pringle, 2008;Warfe et al., 2011). The interactions between rivers and their surrounding floodplain motivated Junk, Bayley, and Sparks (1989) to propose the 'flood pulse concept' as a main force controlling the biota of tropical floodplains. They considered the floodplain as the area periodically inundated by the waters of rivers, lakes, lagoons, and/or underground water, or by direct precipitation. Some macrophytes species show a high growth potential, colonizing large areas on aquatic environments. Cattail (Typha angustifolia L.) uncontrolled growth causes several problems to human activities and local biodiversity, but this also may lead to competition and further problems for this species itself. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate anatomical modifications on T. angustifolia plants from different population densities, once it can help to understand its biology. Roots and leaves were collected from natural populations growing under high and low densities. These plant materials were fixed and submitted to usual plant microtechnique procedures. Slides were observed and photographed under light microscopy and images were analyzed in the UTHSCSA-Imagetool software. The experimental design was completely randomized with two treatments and ten replicates, data were submitted to one-way ANOVA and Scott-Knott test at p<0.05. Leaves from low density populations showed higher stomatal density and index. These modifications on stomatal characteristics were more evident on the leaf abaxial surface. Plants from low density populations showed thicker mesophyll and higher proportion of aerenchymal area. Roots from low density populations showed a higher proportion of the vascular cylinder. Whereas, plants from higher density populations showed greater thickness of the endodermis, exodermis, phloem and root cortex. Higher density populations showed a higher proportion of aerenchymal gaps in the root cortex. Therefore, cattail plants from populations growing under high density population show anatomical traits typical of plants under stress, which promotes the development of less functional anatomical modifications to aquatic environments.Keywords: anatomical plasticity, cattail, macrophytes, plant handling, eutrophication, stress.
