Ocorrência de ginandromorfismo em Trichogramma pretiosum Riley (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae)

Abstract: -Egg parasitoids of genus Trichogramma can reproduce by arrhenotokous or thelytokous parthenogenesis. Thelytoky is genetically determined or induced by endosymbionts such as bacteria of the genus Wolbachia. In thelytokous Trichogramma populations, gynandromorphism -an individual having both male and female structures -can occur. Gynandromorphism was observed in one specimen of Trichogramma pretiosum Riley in which the individual presented female genitalia and male antennae, a fact never reported before in Tric… Show more

“…Among Hymenoptera, the gynandromorphism has been documented in Formicidae (Wheeler 1903;adlerz 1908;BerndT & Kremer 1983;scupola 1994), Diprionidae (marTini et al 1999, Siricidae (neumann 1970), Tenthredinidae (peacocK 1925), Trichogrammatidae (Beserra et al 2003) (laidlaW 1932;leclerq 1953;aKre et al 1982;nilsson 1987;celary & WisnioWsKi 2001;ornosa et al 2001;gonzález 2004;Wcislo et al 2004;engel 2007;lucia et al 2009;michez et al 2009). Teratology is the study of structural abnormalities, especially monstrosities and malformations (Torre-Bueno 1989).…”

“…However, others showed Wolbachia has negative effects on host fitness in most occasions, including lower emergence rate, shorter longevity, smaller body size, and lower fecundity, when compared to their uninfected counterparts (Stouthamer and Luck, 1993;Hohmann et al, 2001;Tagami et al, 2001;Miura and Tagami, 2004;Russell and Stouthamer, 2011;Zhou et al, 2020). Previous studies also found that Wolbachia is the factor that causes the occurrence of intersex (Bowen and Stern, 1966;Beserra et al, 2003;Tulgetske and Stouthamer, 2012;Ning et al, 2019). In these cases, although thelytokous Trichogramma have many advantages in biological control programs, the Wolbachia infection may have potential negative consequences on the production of thelytokous Trichogramma.…”
