Endophytic fungi from Myrcia guianensis at the Brazilian Amazon: distribution and bioactivity

Abstract: Beneficial interactions between plants and microorganisms have been investigated under different ecological, physiological, biochemical, and genetic aspects. However, the systematic exploration of biomolecules with potential for biotechnological products from this interaction still is relatively scarce. Therefore, this study aimed the evaluation of the diversity and antimicrobial activity of the endophytic fungi obtained from roots, stems and leafs of Myrcia guianensis (Myrtaceae) from the Brazilian Amazon. 15… Show more

“…As described by Banhos et al (2014), leaves were successively immersed in 70% alcohol (1 min), 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (4 min), and 70% alcohol (30 s), followed by washing with autoclaved distilled water (6 min) and drying on sterile filter paper. After washing, 50 μL of the distilled water used in the asepsis of the plant material was removed, then this volume was added (inoculated) in a Petri dish with PDA culture medium (potato, dextrose, and agar) in order to verify the efficiency of the asepsis process.…”

“…Dentre os guamirins, o extrato das folhas e óleo essencial de M. guianensis atua como agente alelopático, podendo ser utilizada como herbicida natural (Souza et al, 2006). Nessa já foram encontrados fungos endofíticos com potencial biotecnológico para produção de novos antibióticos (Banhos et al, 2014).…”

“…As compared to this work, several reports have indicated leaf tissues as a source of endophytic fungi (Suryanarayanan et al, 2009). The fungi may penetrate the plant tissues through the aerial interaction making the leaf the most favorable (Banhos et al, 2014).…”
