Characterization and antimicrobial performance of nano silver coatings on leather materials

Abstract: In this study, the characterization and the antimicrobial properties of nano silver (nAg) coating on leather were investigated. For this purpose, turbidity, viscosity and pH of nAg solutions prepared by the sol-gel method were measured. The formation of films from these solutions was characterized according to temperature by Differential Thermal Analysis-Thermogravimetry (DTA-TG) equipment. The surface morphology of treated leathers was observed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The antimicrobial perfo… Show more

“…4,[9][10][11][12] Different methods have been reported for producing silver nanoparticles such as chemical reduction, hydrothermal, photochemical, laser and sol gel. [13][14][15][16][17] The colloid of silver nanoparticles was applied on nonwoven polyester by the pad-dry-cure method. 18 Silver nanoparticles were coated on polyester fabric with an ultrasonic-assisted electrolysis method creating high conductivity with low amounts of silver nanoparticles.…”

“…The area of smart properties of nanomaterials includes photocatalytical decomposition of volatile organic compounds, which allows elimination of unpleasant odours or reduction of fogginess inside vehicles. These properties have been exploited to develop multifunctional textiles (https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/textilestextiles.nsf/eng) and leather with antimicrobial, self-cleaning properties and/or resistance to heat/fire (Lkhagvajav et al, 2015;Gaidau et al, 2011;Bitlisli and Yumurtas, 2008;Petica et al, 2015;Gaidau et al, 2014;Gaidau et al, 2013;Yang et al, 2012).…”
