Show more

“…Authors concluded the NNS in finger associated gloved to non-oral stimulation provided adequacy of the stomatognathic system and contributed to promoting breastfeeding. Delgado 14 reports positive results for the transition of gastric to OF by stimulation the PTNB stomatognathic system presenting genetic syndromes (Popliteal Pterygium Syndrome). The results were not attributed specifically to the technique of NNS with little fingergloved, but to the association to orthodontic pacifier and bottle sucking.…”

“…Initial feeding of preterm infants is often parenteral or enteral, with use of orogastric (OGP) or nasogastric probe (NGP). Some authors consider that the most appropriate way to stimulate the development of the stomatognathic system structures is oral feeding (OF) (12,13) and that prolonged use of feeding tube can be harmful to the newborn because it might alter sucking/swallowing/breathing coordination (S/S/B).…”

“…The audiologist has to be of fundamental importance in a multidisciplinary team, as it features in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the stomatognathic functions (sucking, breathing, swallowing), to the evaluation and treatment of the changes found, with emphasis on the adequacy of the stomatognathic system in stimulation of oral feeding in a safe and effective in promoting breastfeeding, ensuring the maintenance of nutrition, adequate weight gain and baby's health 8,9 .…”
