Use of geostatistics on broiler production for evaluation of different minimum ventilation systems during brooding phase

Abstract: -The objective of this research was to evaluate different minimum ventilation systems, in relation to air quality and thermal comfort using geostatistics in brooding phase. The minimum ventilation systems were: Blue House I: exhaust fans + curtain management (end of the building); Blue House II: exhaust fans + side curtain management; and Dark House: exhaust fans + flag. The climate variables evaluated were: dry bulb temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, carbon dioxide and ammonia concentration, during… Show more

“…Therefore, these variables are inversely proportional, a finding that was also emphasized by CARVALHO et al (2012) andMEDEIROS et al (2014). Moreover, RH remained within limits postulated in the literature only in the upper left region, emphasizing existing microclimates within this facility; furthermore, factors like air temperature, shadowing, stocking density, water consumption and wasting could interfere with this variable.…”

“…Geostatistics is one of the tools that enable deepening on the knowledge of the factors interfering with the rearing environment, providing the highest accuracy in corrections and adjustments of the farming systems (ABREU & ABREU, 2011;CARVALHO et al, 2012). The results can also be interpreted by natural variability that is, making the use of spatial dependence modeling for each variable through semivariance.…”

“…Sensors located at inlet areas described the behavior of the inlet air due to the changes and performance of the pad cooling. Sensors located at sidewalls demonstrated how external conditions influence internal conditions, once the isolating material is not the most adequate (Carvalho et al, 2012;Menegali et al, 2013). In addition, sidewalls are affected by the orientation of the building in relation to sun radiation.…”

“…While very little has been done to understand the farrowing environment of pigs at the crate level, there have been reports that animals in the same environmenacoustic environments of sows and piglets tally controlled building do not always experience the same ambient conditions (Carvalho et al, 2012;Faria et al, 2008). Differences in ambient conditions could explain, at least partially, the substantial variation in pre-wean mortality in farrowing facilities.…”
