Human resources in artificial insemination of beef cattle: profile of managers and inseminators

Abstract: -The objective of the present study was to outline the profile of managers and inseminators involved in beef cattle artificial insemination programs to characterize the management processes involved in this activity. Additionally, by interviewing managers and inseminators, it was searched to detect particularities concerned to personal life and work that can be used to evaluate the quality of life of inseminators on farms. “…The main problem points reported by the farmers are labor-related, not only within the farm; they reported a need for a skilled workforce inside and outside the dairy cattle production. These results contrast those reported by Russi et al (2010), who found that the major cause of dismissal of inseminators are problems of interpersonal relationships. The lower percentage of ECU in the subcategory "human recourse management" (7.75%) in the present study may have been due to the principles of good practice regarding coexistence and participatory communication.…”

“…Without using biotechnologies, opportunities for technological innovation in this sector are lost. According to Russi et al (2010), the educational level of farmers is possibly correlated with the use of reproductive biotechnologies, considering that, in Brazil, the higher the professional level of the farmer, the longer their use of AI/FTAI. These mechanisms increase herd productivity.…”

“…These findings were similar to the study of Russi et al . [ 10 ] where most AITs were also college graduates (58%). Singh and Nanda [ 11 ] showed that higher success rates were found in professional degree holders than diploma holders.…”

“…This study showed that married technicians had higher success rates than single or widowed AITs. While further study may be needed to clarify the role of civil status in AI performance, married technicians may be more patient and with better interpersonal skills, which were found associated with good inseminators [ 10 ]. A significant correlation was also found between the average number of AI per year and AI success.…”
