Structural and photocatalytic characterization of BaFe2O4 obtained at low temperatures

Abstract: Barium monoferrite BaFe 2 O 4 classified as permanent magnet stands out among other ceramic magnets due to its high chemical stability, corrosion resistance and low production cost. In addition, experiments conducted on photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange and UV transmittance by spectrophotometry have shown that this material has photocatalytic properties. The spinel ferrite is of importance in many technological areas such as computing, communications and security. Several techniques for synthesis hav… Show more

“…The heightened interest in ferrites is mainly due to the abundance of starting materials and a low production cost. 21 synthesized by both the microwave precipitation method and the direct decomposition method, were evaluated for the coal CLC reaction. Group 2 metal ferrite oxygen carriers showed better reduction and oxidation rates than Fe 2 O 3 for coal CLC.…”

“…Based on the available literature reports of the title ferrite NPs, it could be noted that several polymorphic phases of the barium ferrites have been identified such as BaFe 2 O 4 (Orthorhombic-Cmc2 1 ), Ba 2 Fe 2 O 5 (monoclinic), BaFe 6 O 11 , Ba 3 Fe 2 O 6 (cubic), Ba 7 Fe 4 O 13 (cubic) and BaFe 12 O 19 (hexagonal-P6 3 /mmc) [28]. There are lots of scientific reports available which predominantly report synthesis and characterization of barium monoferrites [29,30] but as of now, to the best of our knowledge, there are only a very few publications that address the crystallographic phase stability and magnetic phase stability at high-pressure and high energy irradiation as well as shocked conditions. Hence, the real applicability of the synthesized material for the above-suggested applications is unclear so that it is identified to be one of the potential research problems which have to be solved before suggesting the materials for the required applications even though it is well suited for certain specific applications.…”
