RESUMOA escassez de herbicidas registrados para a cultura da mamoneira ainda é fator limitante para sua expansão. Objetivou-se então, com este trabalho, avaliar a tolerância da mamoneira ao herbicida trifluralin em solos com diferentes texturas. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com cinco repetições, em esquema fatorial com 8 doses do herbicida trifluralin aplicado em pré-emergência (0; 187,5; 375; 750; 1.500; 3.000; 6.000 e 12.000 g ha -1 i.a.) e quatro tipos de substrato (areia lavada; franco-arenoso; franco argiloso-arenoso e franco-argiloso). Aos 28 dias após a semeadura foram determinadas as variáveis: altura de plantas, área foliar, massa seca da parte aérea, volume e massa seca do sistema radicular. Concluiu-se que a dose do herbicida trifluralin tolerada pela mamoneira é influenciada pelas características químicas e físicas do solo. Em solos de textura arenosa e franco-arenosa doses do herbicida trifluralin abaixo daquelas comumente utilizadas para controle de plantas daninhas, são suficientes para ocasionar redução no crescimento das plantas de mamoneira. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the tolerance of castor bean to trifluralin herbicide in soils of different textures. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in a completely randomized design with five replications in a factorial with 8 doses of the trifluralin herbicide (0; 187.5; 375; 750; 1.500; 3.000; 6.000 and 12.000 g ha -1 i.a.) applied at pre-emergence and four types of substrates (washed sand; sandy loam; sandy clay loam; and clay loam soil). At 28 days after sowing, the variables plant height, leaf area, shoot dry weight, volume and dry mass of roots were measured. It was concluded that the tolerance of castor bean to trifluralin herbicide is influenced by chemical and physical characteristics of soil. In sandy and sandy loam soils, doses of trifluralin below those commonly used for weed control are sufficient to cause the decrease in the growth of castor bean plants.

-The aim of this work was to evaluate the weed management with herbicides applied in pre and postemergence on castor crop. The treatments were constituted by management systems using herbicides in pre (PRE) and postemergence (POS): 1) S-metolachlor at 576 g ha -1 (PRE 1) and chlorimuron-methyl at 15 g ha -1 (POS 1); 2) PRE 1 + clomazone at 650 g ha -1 (PRE 2) and POS 1; 3) PRE 1, POS 1 and halosulfuron-methyl at 112.5 g ha -1 (POS 2); 4) PRE 1, POS 1 and ethoxysulfuron at 60 g ha -1 (POS 3); 5) PRE 1, POS 1 and ethoxysulfuron at 120 g ha -1 (POS 4); 6) PRE 1 + PRE 2, POS 1 and POS 2; 7) PRE 1 + PRE 2, POS 1 and POS 3; 8) PRE 1 + PRE 2, POS 1 and POS 4; 9) hand-hoeing control and 10) non-weeded control. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications. The association of the herbicides in PRE combined to sequence applications of chlorimuron-ethyl and halosulfuron-methyl or ethoxysulfuron in POS resulted in the highest control levels of Richardia scabra and Cyperus ferax. Mild phytointoxication symptoms to the crop were more persistent with ethoxysulfuron at 120 g ha -1 . The acceptable control of the weed species and similar yield to the hand-hoeing control permitted to conclude that S-metolachlor + clomazone PRE, followed by chlorimuron-ethyl and halosulfuron-methyl POS proved to be more adequate as a weed management strategy on castor crop. ABSTRACT. Castor bean crops are agriculturally relevant due to the quality and versatility of their oil, both for the chemical industry and for biodiesel production. Proper weed management is important for both the cultivation and the yield of castor bean crops; therefore, the intention of the present work is to review pertinent information regarding weed management, including the studies regarding weed interference periods, chemical controls for use in different crop production systems and herbicide selectivity, for castor bean crops. Weed science research for castor bean crops is scarce. One of the main weed management challenges for castor bean crops is the absence of herbicides registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MALFS). Research for viable herbicides for weed control in castor bean crops should be directed by research and/or rural extension institutions, associations and farmers cooperatives, as well as by manufactures, for the registration of these selective herbicides, which would be primarily used to control eudicotyledons in castor bean crops. New studies involving the integration of weed control methods in castor bean also may increase the efficiency of weed management, for both small farmers using traditional crop methods in the Brazilian Northeast region, as well as for areas with the potential for large scale production, using conservation tillage systems, such as the no-tillage crop production system. Estratégias de manejo de plantas daninhas na cultura da mamoneira RESUMO.A cultura da mamoneira apresenta destacada relevância principalmente devido à qualidade e versatilidade de seu óleo tanto na indústria química como para produção de biodiesel. Considerando a importância do manejo de plantas daninhas para o cultivo e produtividade da mamoneira, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo abordar as principais informações disponíveis sobre o assunto, entre as quais foram destacados os estudos de períodos de interferência das plantas daninhas, controle químico em diferentes sistemas de produção e seletividade de herbicidas à cultura. Verificou-se que os resultados de pesquisa sobre o manejo da cultura da mamona são escassos, nos mais variados aspectos da ciência das plantas daninhas. Uma das principais dificuldades para o controle de plantas daninhas na cultura da mamona é a atual ausência de herbicidas registrados no MAPA. As informações existentes descrevem perspectivas viáveis que necessitam ser direcionadas por instituições de pesquisa e/ou extensão rural, associações e cooperativas de produtores rurais, assim como por empresas fabricantes, para o registro de herbicidas seletivos, principalmente para o controle de espécies eudicotiledôneas.
