INTRODUCTION:The frailty syndrome is a complex condition that permeates the life of the elderly, with the decrease of the homeostatic reserve of the organism and loss of resistance to the stressors, caused as results of many factors, but mainly by sarcopenia. Such syndrome makes the elderly vulnerable to illness and may lead to terminal stages of life if there is no adequate treatment. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the influence of the factors related to the frailty phenotype in the occurrence of this in participants of groups of coexistence and health promotion of the city of Santa Cruz/RN. METHOD: This is a descriptive, associative and transversal of quantitative approach study with 60 elderly. The socioeconomic condition and the fragility phenotype was evaluated. RESULTS: the mean age of the sample was 66.1 years (SD=5.08). Most of them (53.3%) are in the age group of 60-69 years, does not have a partner (63.4%) and are illiterate (58.3%). In the mentioned morbidity, 42 (70%) reported some morbidity and hypertension was more prevalent in the sample (53.3%), followed by diabetes (20%) and osteoporosis (18.3%). Four elderly were fragile, forty-nine were pre-fragile and seven were non-fragile. There was a significant correlation in unintentional loss of weight (0.017), exhaustion (<0.001) and slowness in gait (<0.001) in the occurrence of pre-frailty. CONCLUSION: the prevalence of pre-frailty indicators in the investigated groups indicates warning signs so that actions more strongly linked to the prevention of this aggravation become a priority in the planning of the undertaken interventions in groups. Participation in social groups has a protective effect in the prevention of frailty in the elderly.

-A high prevalence of body image dissatisfaction has been observed among adolescents over the last decades. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between body image dissatisfaction and demographic factors in adolescents. The sample consisted of 405 boys and girls (247 from an urban area and 158 from a rural area) aged 14 to 17 years enrolled in public schools of a small-sized municipality. The demographic variables analyzed were gender (male, female), age (14-15 years, 16-17 years), and area of residence (urban, rural). The perception of body image was evaluated using a figure rating scale. The prevalence of body image dissatisfaction was 56.5%. Both girls (26.5%) and boys (39.5%) wished to have a larger body silhouette. An association was observed between body image dissatisfaction and gender, with boys showing a 1.24 times higher chance (95%CI: 1.05-1.47) of body image dissatisfaction than girls. The prevalence of body image dissatisfaction is high even among adolescents from small-sized municipalities. Body image dissatisfaction is more prevalent among boys. Healthcare workers and teachers should be aware of the importance to encourage youngster to better understand themselves and their body and to reflect about current body images. ResumoObjetivo: Verificar a relação entre o índice de massa corpórea, a autoestima e a autoimagem corporal de idosas participantes de grupos da terceira idade. Métodos: Estudo transversal por amostragem casual e assistemática. Participaram do estudo 50 idosas residentes no município de João Pessoa-PB. As variáveis pesquisadas foram: sexo, idade, estado civil, renda, escolaridade e índice de massa corpórea. A análise da percepção da imagem corporal foi realizada utilizando-se a escala de nove silhuetas (Sorensen & Stunkard). Para avaliar a autoestima, utilizou-se a Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg. Resultados: Não se observou significância estatística entre as variáveis estudadas. A média de idade das idosas foi 72,12 (6,14). O índice de massa corpórea apresentou média de 26,91 Kg/m², sendo verificado excesso de peso em 51,02%; a maior parte das idosas (90,60%) apresentou autoestima satisfatória, embora mais da metade (79,31%) delas se encontrasse acima do peso ideal; 87,50% estavam insatisfeitas com seu próprio corpo devido ao excesso de peso. Conclusão: Embora os dados não tenham mostrado significância estatística entre as variáveis, os resultados sugerem que, apesar de a maioria das idosas estar com excesso de peso, a autoestima apresentou nível satisfatório, enquanto a percepção da autoimagem corporal foi insatisfatória.
