Improved assessment of wheat seeds vigor

Abstract: The tetrazolium test is widely used for seed vigor assessment of various plant species. For wheat, however, there is no methodology specifically recommended. This study aimed at determining an efficient procedure to evaluate vigor of wheat seeds by this test; besides allowing the establishment of seed quality classes. Thus, four different wheat seed lots were assessed by determining the moisture content and through tests of germination, accelerated aging, and field seedling emergence. The following methodologi… Show more

“…Journal of Seed Science, v.38, n.4, p. [344][345][346][347][348][349]2016 Tetrazolium test -viability in order to perform it, the methodology proposed by Carvalho et al (2012) was followed, cutting seeds in longitudinal bi-sections along the embryo and the endosperm and placing one seed half in 3 mL of 0.075% solution of 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride, in a plastic cup (50 mL capacity), at 40 °C in the dark, for 2 hours. After that, seeds were individually evaluated and separated into feasible and non-feasible, as proposed by Carvalho et al (2012), to confirm wheat seed viability or not.…”

“…belongs to family gramineae/poaceae and it occupies 6 th place in the rank of most cultivated food crops, is growing all over the world and the most important cereal crop of Pakistan. Whilst, the production of wheat crop increased by the adoption of efficient cultural practices of crops such as use of best quality of seeds become necessary for cultivation of crop [4,5]. Although, tissue culture practices promising the production of high-quality types of seeds. There are many beneficial and useful wheat verities has been developed through controlled Invitro culture for drought tolerance The purpose of this study was toexamined the optimize concentration of MS medium supplemented with (BAP), (IAA) and to stabilize the method of regeneration of wheat on controlled laboratory condition.…”
