Knowledge on the ideal conditions for the formation of high quality seedlings is fundamental to guarantee establishment success of crops in a safe and efficient manner. Here, we evaluate the effect of different substrates and irrigation frequencies on the initial growth of parica (Schizolobium parahyba var. amazonicum) seedlings. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the Federal Rural University of Amazônia, Capitão Poço, PA. Several variables were analyzed including seedling height, stem diameter, number of leaflets, shoot dry matter, root dry matter, total dry matter, height and stem diameter ratio, shoot dry matter ratio and root dry matter. We found significant differences in seedling development between the applied treatments, including a significant interaction between substrate type and irrigation regime on seedling height, stem diameter, the number of leaflets and plant growth indices, with the best response for proportions 75% soil + 25% bovine manure and 50% soil + 50% bovine manure. Therefore, the substrates containing organic compounds resulted in a higher quality of the seedlings, while the sand consistently presented the lowest increases in seedling production under the three experimental irrigation frequencies, and thus is not recommended as a substrate for the development of Schizolobium parahyba var. amazonicum.

RESUMO -Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a interação entre o tamanho do vaso de cultivo e doses de glyphosate no crescimento, na fisiologia e na eficácia de controle de Brachiaria decumbens. A semeadura foi feita em vasos contendo 2, 5, 10 e 20 L de substrato, mantidos em casa de vegetação. Entre os 41 e 63 dias após a emergência (DAE), avaliou-se o crescimento de B. decumbens. Aos 64 DAE, fez-se a aplicação do glyphosate nas doses de 0,0, 0,8, 1,6 e 3,2 kg ha -1 de equivalente ácido. Foram avaliadas as trocas gasosas e a fluorescência da clorofila a, aos dois dias após a aplicação (DAA), bem como a eficácia de controle, aos 7, 14, 21 e 28 DAA, sendo nesta última avaliação determinada ainda a matéria seca da parte aérea. Por fim, aferiu-se ainda a capacidade de rebrota de B. decunbens aos 28 dias após o corte. O crescimento de B. decumbens aumentou linearmente com o aumento do tamanho do vaso. As trocas gasosas e os parâmetros de fluorescência foram afetados pelas doses de glyphosate, mas não pela variação do tamanho do vaso. Não houve interação significativa entre doses e tamanhos de vasos sobre a eficácia de controle, porém essa variável aumentou consideravelmente com o aumento da dose e, discretamente, com o aumento do tamanho de vaso, sobretudo nas avaliações até os 14 DAA. A matéria seca da parte área aos 28 DAA e de rebrota foi dependente da interação entre tamanho do vaso e dose de glyphosate. O tamanho do vaso deve ser escolhido com critério para ensaios de eficácia de controle de B. decumbens com herbicida sistêmico. RESUMOCom o objetivo de avaliar os efeitos dos substratos no desenvolvimento inicial de ca-feeiros (Coffea arabica L.) plantados em tubetes, foi conduzido, em viveiro de café no Institu-to Federal do Sul de Minas (IFSULDEMINAS), campus Machado, no sul de Minas Gerais. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 3x5, com três repetições. Cada parcela foi constituída por três tubetes com capacidade volumétrica de 51 ml cada. Os fatores em estudo foram os três genótipos de Coffea arabica (Catuaí Vermelho IAC 44, Catucaí Amarelo 2SL e Mundo Novo IAC 379-19) e as cinco adições ao substrato comercial foram: húmus de minhoca, esterco bovino de curral, esterco curtido de galinha, palha curtida de café (resíduos da máquina de beneficiamento) e, como testemunha, o substra-to comercial puro. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por 50% do produto comercial, 10% de vermiculita e 5% de areia grossa, adicionando-se aos 35% restantes os tratamentos citados anteriormente. Verificou-se a possibilidade de substituir nesta proporção o substrato comercial por fonte de material orgânico.Palavras-chave: Coffea arabica, tubete, substrato. Coffee Seedlings Growing In Substrate Amended With Differentes Organic Residues ABSTRACTAiming to evaluate the effects doe substrates in the initial development of coffee (Coffea arabica L.) planted in plas-tic tubes, was carried out at coffee nursery at the Federal Institute of Southern Minas IFSULDEMINAS -Machado Campus, located in southern Minas Gerais. The experimental design was randomized blocks in factorial scheme 3x5, with three replications. Each plot consisted of three tubes with a volume capacity of 120 ml each, and the factors were the three genotypes of Coffea arabica (IAC Catuaí Red 44, and the five additions to commercial substrate were earthworm compost, farmyard manure, chicken manure and tanned, leathery coffee straw (waste processing machine) and as a witness, the pure commercial substrate. The treatments were to be composed of 50% of the commercial product, 10% vermiculite and 5% coarse sand, adding -if, in the remaining 35% treatments mentioned previously. There was the possibility of replacing 35 % of the substrate by commercial source of orga nic material.
