The objective of this study was to analyze the prevalence of violence against Brazilian immigrant women since their arrival in Portugal and to know the consequences of this violence on the women's experience, specifically on health, perception of discrimination and loneliness. Conducted in the first half of 2016, with 682 women over 18 years of age living in Portugal for more than three months. Two types of collection were instituted: online, through the Limasurvey Platform, and in person, at the Consulate General of Brazil in Porto and Lisbon and in the Mais Association, applying the Discrimination Perceptions, Loneliness Scales (ULS-6) and Mental Health Problems. The results suggest that Brazilian women who have been targets of violence in Portugal have a worse perception of their health, a higher perception of discrimination, a higher level of solitude and more mental problems, which indicates that this group of immigrants has some vulnerabilities in the country, since violence has a harmful effect on physical and mental health. It is believed to be crucial to create a policy that aims at transforming actions aimed at strengthening the citizen and collective consciousness of these immigrant women.

Resumo: Este estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar a produção científica de artigos empíricos sobre casas-abrigo e redes sociais no contexto da violência contra a mulher. Buscaramse artigos publicados entre 2004 e 2015, no Portal de Periódicos da Capes. Os descritores utilizados foram "shelter" e "social networks", combinados com "violence against women" e suas variações: "domestic violence"/"gender violence". De 1.536 estudos encontrados, 33 atenderam aos critérios de inclusão estabelecidos e foram organizados em duas categorias temáticas. Os resultados mostraram aspectos positivos da passagem das mulheres pela casa-abrigo, como o apoio oferecido pelos profissionais, além de aspectos dificultadores após a saída do local, principalmente em relação à geração de trabalho e renda. As redes sociais foram apontadas como um importante recurso no enfrentamento da violência, sobretudo pelo apoio da família de origem e das relações de amizade. Com base nos resultados e limitações apontados nos estudos, sugere-se o desenvolvimento de novas pesquisas que problematizem a interrelação das práticas profissionais realizadas em casas-abrigo e o acompanhamento das mulheres após saírem do local, assim como, aprofundar a análise dos vínculos afetivos que sustentam as funções desempenhadas pelos membros que constituem as redes sociais configuradas. Violence against Women, Shelters and Social Networks: Systematic Review of the LiteratureAbstract: This study aimed to characterize the scientific production of empirical articles about shelters and social networks in the context of violence against women. The research included articles published between 2004 and 2015, at the CAPES Periodic Portal. The descriptors used were "shelter" and "social networks", along with "violence against women" and its variations: "domestic violence"/ "gender violence". Of 1536 studies found, 33 attended to the inclusion criteria established and were organized in two thematic categories. The results showed positive aspects of the women's permanence at the shelters like the support provided by their professionals, as well as the negative aspects which made their lives difficult after they left the shelters, such as finding a job and having an income. Social networks were pointed as an important resource in coping with violence, especially through the original family support and friendship. Based on the results and limitations pointed in the studies, it is suggested the development of new researches that explore the professional practice interrelation in women's shelter and the accompaniment of women after leaving the shelter, as well as studies that deepen the analysis of the emotional bonds that sustain functions performed by members that compose the social networks.

Significant Social Networks and Violence Against Women: Perspective of Professionals From a Shelter

Abstract This qualitative study identified the structural characteristics of the significant social networks constituted in the context of the sheltering of women in situations of violence. Ten professionals were interviewed from a shelter located in the South of Brazil. The organization and analysis of the data was based on the Grounded Theory and software Atlas.ti 7.0. During the women’s stay, the professionals noted networks that: (a) wanted to offer help but were unable to ensure safety, (b) made it difficult to leave the shelter for religious or cultural reasons, (c) could help with these women’s social reintegration. The professionals considered the significant social networks as key elements for the rescue of bonds broken by the situation of violence.
