Corn plants were twice sprayed at 3‐day intervals during tasselling to evaluate the effect of chlorpyrifos on ear damage by H. zea and also on the populations of the natural enemies associated with this moth. The abundance of H. zea eggs and larvae and of predators on the whole plant, the egg parasitism by Trichogramma pretiosum Riley and the percentage of injured ears were sampled weekly. Chlorpyrifos did not show any significant effect on population levels and on ear damage by H. zea. Natural parasitism of eggs ranged from 52 to 75% and did not differ between treated and untreated plots; furthermore, the percentage of non viable eggs and adult emergence were not influenced by insecticide application. Among the predators found in the plots, Doru luteipes was not affected by spraying, whereas the abundance of Orius sp. decreased 21 days after insecticide application. The frequency of the ant Pheidole sp. was not affected by chlorpyrifos; however, foraging activity of Crematogaster sp. on treated plots was rapidly reduced and remained low during the following 2 weeks. The small number of damaged ears suggests that the insecticide did not affect the efficiency of the natural enemies of H. zea.

Pesticides can be applied by aircraft, ground-sprayers or sprinkler irrigation. However, selecting the best option is complicated by the limited number of studies comparing these techniques. Thus, the objective of this work was to study the chlorpyrifos insecticide deposition applied by aircraft (30 L ha -1 ), tractor-mounted sprayer (200 L ha -1 ) and chemigation (70,000 L ha -1 ) for the control of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) in two corn (Zea mays L.) populations (70,000 and 100,000 plants ha -1 ). Active ingredient residue on the corn plant leaves was evaluated by gas chromatography, immediately and ten days after the treatments. Armyworm numbers in each plot and control were also evaluated. The experiment was set up in randomized blocks with four replications. Aerial and ground applications of chlorpyrifos led to greater active ingredient deposition in the leaves than chemigation. Neither plant population (70,000 and 100,000 plants ha -1 ) affected the insecticide deposition in the corn leaves. S. frugiperda control was similar for all three application methods. Chemigation, however, resulted in less deposition on the plants and consequently in a greater insecticide loss to the soil, which should be considered in environmental impact. RESUMOA aplicação de produtos fitossanitários pode ser feita, utilizando-se avião agrícola, pulverizadores terrestres ou via água de irrigação. Contudo, a seleção da melhor técnica é difícil, dada à pequena quantidade de estudos comparativos entre elas. Assim, neste trabalho, objetivou-se estudar a deposição do inseticida clorpirifós na cultura do milho, empregando aplicação aérea (30 L ha -1 ), tratorizada (200 L ha -1 ) e via água de irrigação (70.000 L ha -1 ), para o controle de Spodoptera frugiperda em duas populações de plantas (70.000 e 100.000 plantas ha -1 ). O resíduo do ingrediente ativo nas folhas, imediatamente e dez dias após as aplicações, foi avaliado por cromatografia gasosa. O número de lagartas, em cada parcela experimental e na testemunha, também foi avaliado. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As aplicações aérea e tratorizada do inseticida clorpirifós proporcionaram maior deposição do ingrediente ativo nas folhas do que via água de irrigação. As duas populações de plantas empregadas (70.000 e 100.000 plantas ha -1 ) não influenciaram a deposição do inseticida nas folhas de milho. O controle de S. frugiperda foi similar para os três métodos de aplicação, contudo, na quimigação, ocorreu menor deposição na planta, o que deve ser considerado para evitar danos ambientais causados por escorrimento de calda para o solo.Termos para indexação: Tecnologia de aplicação de inseticida, lagarta-do-cartucho, quimigação, pulverizador.

Este trabalho propõe método de análise de resíduos de Clorpirifós em amostras de alface por cromatografia a líquido de alta eficiência (CLAE). A análise foi realizada em cromatógrafo Shimadzu, com detector de ultravioleta ajustado em 229 nm, Coluna C-18, modelo Zorbax ODS (4,6 mm x 25 cm, 5 µm), fluxo de 1 mL/min e temperatura de 35ºC. Usou-se Metanol:Água (82:18) como fase móvel e volume injetado de 50 µL. Amostras de alface (20 g) foram trituradas e homogeneizadas na presença de 50 mL de Diclorometano (DCM). O material foi filtrado a vácuo e evaporado a temperatura de 50ºC. O resíduo foi retomado com fase móvel, agitado, desgaseificado, filtrado em membrana 0,22 µm e injetado no cromatógrafo (injetor automático). Os resultados do teste de repetitividade mostraram recuperação média de 101,91%. O método proposto é simples e rápido para determinação de resíduos de Clorpirifós em amostras de alface. METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF CHLORPIRYFOS RESIDUES IN LETTUCE BY USING HPLC (High Performance Liquid Cromatograph) Abstract This paper suggests a method for the residual analysis of chlorpiryfos in lettuce samples by using HPLC (High Performance Liquid Cromatograph). The analysis has been carried out in a Shimadzu cromatograph, with ultraviolet detector adjusted to 229 nm, column C-18, model Zorbax ODS (4.6 mm x 25 cm, 5 µm), flux 1mL/min, temperature of 350C. The mobile phase used was methanol:water (82:18) and the injected volume of 50 µL. Lettuce samples have been triturated and homogenized in the presence of 50 mL of the solvent Dichlormethan (DCM). The vacuum filtered material was evaporated at the temperature of 500C. The residue has been retaken in a mobile phase, stirred, degasified, filtered in a 0.22 µm membrane and automatically injected in the HPLC. Good results were obtained in a repetitivity test, with an average recovery of 101.91%. The proposed test presents simplicity and quickness in the residual determination of Chlorpiryfos in lettuce samples.
