Performance of cylindrical-conical cyclones with different geometrical configurations

Abstract: The present work is a continuation of a study of the influence of geometric characteristics on the performance of reverse-flow cylindrical-conical cyclones. After studying the behavior of the pressure drop in previous work (Arnosti et al., 1998), here performance in terms of collection efficiency in the removal of particulate material is addressed. The independent variables considered in this study were inlet gas velocity (three velocities) and the following dimensions of the cyclone: the cylindrical section (… Show more

“…In the method [7], an attempt is made to consider the features of flows in the device, wall friction, multifractionality and input concentration of solids on the characteristics of the particulate collection in cyclone devices. The work [8] proposes a statistical correlation for evaluating fractional efficiency, which is satisfactory agreed with experimental data for cyclones of different geometry.…”

“…Muschelknautz, and Trefz [15] attempts to take into account the singularities of the flow adjustment device, the friction of the walls, multi-fractionality and the concentration of particulate matter entering collection devises of the cyclone. The paper [16] proposes a statistical correlation of assessing fractional effectiveness satisfactorily compatible with experimental data on the cyclones of different geometry.…”

“…В [8] запропонована статистична кореляція для оцінки пофракційної ефективності, що задовільно узгоджується з експериментальними даними для циклонів різної геометрії. Тут також відмічено, що рівняння для пофракційної ефективності [9], широко відоме в літературі, не може бути рекомендовано для низьких величин конструктивного фактору К та випадків оцінки ефективності циклонів при великих змінах в їх конструкціях.…”
