Generalized drying curves in conductive/convective paper drying

Abstract: This work presents a study related to conductive/convective drying of paper (cellulose) sheets over heated surfaces, under natural and forced air conditions. The experimental apparatus consists in a metallic box heated by a thermostatic bath containing an upper surface on which the paper samples (about 1 mm thick) are placed. The system is submitted to ambient air under two different conditions: natural convection and forced convection provide by an adjustable blower. The influence of initial paper moisture co… Show more

“…Theoretical bases of generalized drying curve are based mainly on hypothesis that the relative drying coefficient connects the drying rate in the first and the second period. [41,42] In Figure 11, the generalized drying curve for ammonium sulfate is presented. [41,42] In Figure 11, the generalized drying curve for ammonium sulfate is presented.…”

“…Motta Lima et al [90][91][92] performed both experimental and modeling work using the concept of generalized drying rate curves. Initially, the paper [90,91] was not supported on the heated surface but later a dryer felt was also added. [92] Good agreement was found between the experimental and modeled data.…”

“…Motta Lima et al [8] studied the application of the drying curves generalization methodologies (GDC and NDRC) to natural convection drying of short-fiber cellulose inside an oven and to natural and forced convection ambient air drying of short-fiber cellulose. Very good results, especially for the generalized drying curves, were obtained.…”
