PURPOSE: To translate the Munich Music Questionnaire (MUMU) to Brazilian Portuguese, to adapt it culturally, and to describe the results obtained among adult users of cochlear implant (CI). METHODS: We translated the questionnaire to Brazilian Portuguese, reviewed the grammatical and idiomatic equivalences (back-translation), and adapted it from a linguistic and cultural perspective. The resulting version of this process was applied among adult CI users through direct interviews. RESULTS: The Brazilian Portuguese version of MUMU was applied to 19 adult CI users with postlingual hearing loss, who had been users of the device for at least one year. The answers to the questionnaire were analyzed by distribution of frequency and percentage of occurrence in each question. The results showed a decrease in the frequency of CI users that listen to music, comparing the period before hearing loss and after the CI. Regarding the role that music played in the life of each participant, the responses did not score change, so the music remained being an important factor in the life of the evaluated subjects, even after the CI. CONCLUSION: The subjective evaluation tool MUMU was translated and culturally adapted to the population studied. In Brazilian Portuguese, it was called Questionário de Música de Munique. The study showed its applicability in the daily monitoring of CI users, thus providing a profile of the activities related to music in everyday life.

The assessment of language skills in early childhood can provide important information about the future of literacy and academic performances. Children with reading difficulties should be identified early in their education, before they suffer from shortcomings and experience failures and feel discouraged at school. Considering the importance of early identification of language disorders and the shortage of standardized instruments for the Brazilian scenario, the overall objective of this study was to translate and adapt the Dyslexia Early Screening Test - Second Edition (DEST-2) to, subsequently, verify its applicability and efficacy in preschoolers who had Brazilian Portuguese as their native language. The study was composed of 20 children of both genders, regularly enrolled in a public school in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, none had any complaints related to learning and no indicators of sensory, neurological, cognitive, or behavioral disorders. It was observed that there was no need for significant changes to the original structure of the DEST-2 or in their administration instructions format. The performance of the children in the translated and in the national exams that were used as a benchmark was compatible, suggesting that the adjustments made met the equivalences needed to utilize this instrument with Brazilian children. A randomized study that will complement the preliminarily data obtained is in progress. Taking into consideration the linguistic and cultural diversity of Brazil, it is imperative that the translated version of the DEST-2 can be applied on a large scale and in several states of the country, in order to allow the use of this instrument as a language assessment tool in Brazil.

ResumoO envelhecimento é um fenômeno complexo que envolve as dimensões física, psicológica e sociocultural, incluindo a autopercepção da saúde e do envelhecimento, devendo estas ser abordadas e, portanto, fazer parte da avaliação geriátrica ampla. No caso da autopercepção de saúde, existe vasta literatura nacional e internacional. Contudo, em relação à autopercepção do envelhecimento, os estudos ainda são incipientes, especialmente no Brasil, assim este estudo tem como objetivo apresentar os resultados do processo de tradução e adaptação cultural do Aging Perceptions Questionnaire (APQ) para a língua portuguesa brasileira. Para tanto, foi utilizada a metodologia proposta por Beaton et al., que propôs a realização de duas traduções para o português (T1 e T2), a síntese destas traduções (T12), duas retrotraduções, a síntese destas retrotraduções, a análise pelo comitê de especialistas e a aplicação do pré-teste. A validade de conteúdo foi feita pela análise do comitê e por análise qualitativa do pré-teste. Após a aplicação do pré-teste e entrevista individual com 30 indivíduos, foram realizadas duas alterações no documento T12 usado como pré-teste. O documento final gerado a partir da tradução e adaptação cultural do instrumento original será aplicado posteriormente em uma amostra maior, para sua validação para a população brasileira.
