Aclimatização: estudo do reconhecimento de fala em usuários de próteses auditivas

Abstract: the objective evaluation, using speech recognition tests, presents better results in the months following the hearing aids fitting indicating a progressive improvement in the speech abilities from the first month onwards. The subjective evaluation does not reveal an improvement when comparing the first and third moths after the hearing aids were fitted.

“…Thus, perceptual acclimatization only begins after the first month of adaptation, it is progressive, and results from using acoustic cues provided by hearing aid use. 7 Our study generally showed no significant differences in the benefits gained with hearing aids; at an individual level, however, we found that 53.85% of adults and 48.15% of elderly patients had some sign of improvement in SRTS and SRTN when comparing the evaluation and reevaluation tests. Among adult subjects that improved, mean changes were 2.80 dB for the SRTS and 1.19 dB for the SRTN.…”

“…Statements along these lines in subjective assessments have been made, where patients reveal attitudes of humbleness and gratitude for having been given hearing aids free of charge, and do not feel it right to complain. 7 Auditory perceptual acclimatization is a systematic change in the auditory system with time. 18 There is an evident conflict about the existence of perceptual acclimatization, 19 as some studies have shown improved performance while other have failed to demonstrate the effects of auditory perceptual acclimatization.…”

“…Nos voluntários adaptados houve reavaliação das variáveis: qualidade de vida, equilíbrio e medo de queda. Este prazo foi estabelecido em virtude de estudos demonstrarem que 90 dias são suficientes para uma boa (25). Quanto aos fatores relacionados à adaptação ao AASI, nossos achados estão de acordo com estudo previamente realizado que demonstrou que presença de zumbido e vertigem não influenciam na adaptação ao AASI (26).…”

“…The fact that the overall results were positive does not necessarily indicate that patients were satisfied. In fact, that might reveal an attitude of humility and gratification for having received the hearing aids without any financial burden and, therefore, patients do not consider themselves worthy of any dissatisfaction (11).…”
