TranslaTion, culTural adapTaTion To Brazil and validaTion of The venous leg ulcer qualiTy of life quesTionnaire (vlu-qol-Br) Methods: the questionnaire was translated by a professional translator and two dermatologists specialized in the area of venous ulcers (VU), reformulated in a meeting of the three translators. The construct (VLU-QoL-Br) was submitted to pre-interviews with ten VU patients for adaptation of the language. Subsequently, it was applied to patients at the HC-Unesp, and for test-retest reliability for verification of its reproducibility. Results: 82 patients were evaluated, with 56 (68%) women. The age average was 67.3 years. The questionnaire was translated, adapted and applied to the patients. The construct presented high internal consistency (alpha = 0.94) and adequate item-total correlation. When the 32 retests were evaluated, an intra-class correlation was noted for concordance of 0.78 (p<0.01), indicating good reproducibility of the construct. The confirmatory factor analysis corroborated the dimensions of the original questionnaire: activities, psychologies, and symptoms. VLU-QoL-Br scores were associated, independently, to the total area of the ulcers and a lower education level of the subjects (p<0.01). Conclusion: the translation, adaptation and validation of the VLU-QoL-Br questionnaire were concluded, demonstrating good psychometric performance, and enabling its clinical use in Brazil. It is important to evaluate its performance in other regions and different samples of individuals.Uniterms: leg ulcer, venous insufficiency, varicose ulcer, quality of life, validation studies.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of microcurrent electrical stimulation on pain and area of venous ulcers. In a pilot study for a single-blind controlled clinical trial, carried out at an outpatient clinic during four weeks, 14 subjects with venous ulcers (mean age 62±9 years) were divided in two groups: microcurrent (n=8) and control group (n=6). Pain (by Visual Analogue Scale) and the ulcer area were measured by planimetry. There was a significant difference between the two groups with respect to pain (microcurrent group from 8.5 (6.5-9.75) to 3.5 (1-4.75) and control group from 7.5 (5.75-10) to 8.5 (5.5-10), p<0.01).Non-significant changes were found with respect to ulcer area (planimetry by graph paper, p=0.41 and by Image J ® , p=0.41). In conclusion, the application of microcurrent improves the pain of patients with venous ulcers (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT01372020).

RESUMOIntrodução: O Núcleo de Prevenção e Tratamento de Feridas teve início em 2003 com o objetivo de atender e acompanhar a demanda hospitalar e local de pacientes que tiveram hanseníase e possuem ou possuíam algum tipo de lesão dermatológica/ trófica. O registro fotográfico em banco de dados é uma ferramenta importante para o acompanhamento da evolução da ferida, cujo objetivo é documentar o estado antes e depois de procedimentos ou da utilização de curativos, servindo como fonte de dados sobre a assistência prestada ao portador de ferida crônica, além de ser objeto de ensino e pesquisa. Objetivos: Criar um banco de dados com registros fotográficos das lesões dos pacientes de caráter evolutivo para que tais lesões possam ser avaliadas com o transcorrer do tempo e de acordo com seu tratamento. Resultados: Criou-se um banco de dados com registro fotográfico dos pacientes, o qual foi organizado em pastas e subpastas de maneira simples, com facilidade de acesso e compreensão. Conclusão: O registo fotográfico mantido em banco de dados melhora substancialmente o acompanhamento e o tratamento dos pacientes portadores de lesões crônicas dermatológicas. ABSTRACT Introduction:The Prevention and Wound Care Center was established in 2003 in order to assist the hospital and the local demand of patients who had leprosy and present or presented some kind of dermatological ulceration. The photographic record database is an important tool for monitoring the evolution of the wound, which aims to document the state of the wound before and after procedures or the use of dressings curatives, as a data source on the care provided to the chronic wound carrier as well as an object of teaching and research. Objectives: To create a database of photographic records of patient injuries of evolving character, so that such injuries can be assessed with the passing of time and according to the treatment. Results: A database containing photographic records of the patients was created and organized in folders and subfolders in a simple manner with ease of access and understanding. Conclusion: The photographic record in the database substantially improves monitoring and treatment of patients with chronic skin lesions.
