Avaliação oftalmológica tardia em portadores de retinopatia diabética

Abstract: Advanced diabetic retinopathy may be detected at different times of the ophthalmic examination in both types of diabetes. Although the mean interval between the diagnosis and the first examination is 13 years for diabetes type 1 and 5 years for diabetes type 2, this severe kind of retinopathy occurred as early as three months after diagnosis of diabetes. This points to the need for an earlier ophthalmic examination in the case of this disease.

“…The Diabetic Retinopathy Study (DRS) showed that the panphotocoagulation (PFC) of the retina is indicated for nonproliferative DR as severe and very severe for proliferative DR (13) . The ETDRS suggested that early treatment with laser reduces the risk of blindness in 50% (13,14) . Other already pre-established conducts are also useful in the treatment of DR.…”

“…Having this in mind, DR can be considered the main cause of blindness among diabetics. 16 DR can be diagnosed through Retinography, an imaging exam that photographs areas of the fundus of the eye, such as the retina, choroid, optic nerve, and blood vessels, and aims to detect changes in the regular pattern of pigmentation and of the retinal vessels. It is an examination that can be performed by technicians, properly trained by an ophthalmologist, and then analyzed by a specialist doctor, as is done in the scenario in question.…”

“…Algumas patologias se associam ao diabetes, como, por exemplo, a retinopatia, a neuropatia e a nefropatia. A Retinopatia Diabética (RD) é a principal causa de cegueira entre os diabéticos [2][3][4] . Esta complicação ocorre devido à grande concentração de glicose na circulação sanguínea, o que lesa os vasos sanguíneos que nutrem a retina.…”
