Conceptual framework for research and clinical practice concerning cardiovascular health-related behaviors

Abstract: Objective: To present a conceptual framework based on the PRECEDE model conceived to guide research and the clinical practice of nurses in the clinical follow-up of patients with cardiovascular diseases. Method: The conceptual bases as well as the study designs used in the framework are discussed. The contextualization of the proposed structure is presented in the clinical follow-up of hypertensive patients. Examples of the intervention planning steps according to the intervention mapping protocol are provided… Show more

“…Some video game interventions designed for children with T1DM 9 , 25 - 26 and health in general 27 are described in the literature. Theories as The Elaboration Likelihood, Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), Self-Determination Theory (SDT), Behavioral Inoculation, and Transportation Theory are examples of health behavioral theories considered in studies that structured frameworks designed to prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) 23 , 15 and to influence changes in diet and physical activity 22 , 28 - 29 . The Theory of Planned Behavior guides a framework designed to increase adherence to treatment in T1DM patients 26 .…”

“…Conceptual models and frameworks help visualize and understand complex concepts and processes. Conceptual models and frameworks can be used in clinical practice and to develop clinical practice guidelines (Gallani et al, 2013;Jones et al, 2002;Koh et al, 2013). Some clinical practice guidelines for massage therapy discuss best treatment options; however, few, if any, discuss the importance of, or processes for, clinical assessment and evaluation (Brosseau et al, 2012a(Brosseau et al, , 2012b.…”

“…3 It also indicates the financial burden which the cardiovascular diseases represent for the Unified Health System (SUS) and supports the need for the development of strategic interventions in health, which need to be effective in order to reduce the rates of cardiovascular diseases in Brazil. 4 The 7.4% growth of the population aged 65 years old or more reflects a change of the national age structure, with a broadening of the whole of the population pyramid. 5 As a result, the increase of the participation of the adult and older adult population in society requires the medical sciences to produce technological and technical advances, such as surgical techniques.…”
