Gibberellin and cytokinin effects on soybean growth

Abstract: Soybean is an important crop in Brazil. Nonetheless, there are no reports on the use of plant growth regulator potential in relation to this crop in the national literature. To better understand the role of these compounds, a pot experiment was carried out to study effects of GA 3 and cytokinin on the vegetative growth of the soybean. GA 3 (50 mg L -1 ) was applied as seed treatment, leaving plants with water application as control. GA 3 (100 mg L -1 ) and cytokinin (30 mg L -1 ) were sprayed on leaves at the … Show more

“…According to Sauter&Kende (1992), this elongation response of internodes is based on the expansion of cells of the intercalary meristem, which, by increasing the cell division, allows an increase in the height of the plant. These results corroborate with those found by Leite et al (2003), with the increase in stem height in soybean plants under the effect of gibberellic acid.…”

“…The positive effect of gibberellic acid on plant growth has been reported by several authors, especially when applied during the initial developmental stages (COELHO et al, 1983;MODESTO et al, 1996;LEITE et al, 2003;LEONEL;PEDROSO, 2005). As shown in Figure 1, gibberellic acid, in all concentrations tested, promoted an increase in tamarind plant height.…”
