-Pigeon pea is an important protein source grown in several tropical and sub-tropical countries, and is considered a multi-purpose plant that is resistant to the conditions of the Brazilian Cerrado. Among the possible uses for cowpea, its use as a green manure, increasing soil nitrogen content through the association with diazotrophic bacteria, generically known as rhizobia, is noteworthy. The present work aimed to evaluate the efficiency of Rhizobium strains isolated from cowpea plants in the development of pigeon peas cultured in Red Latosol. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, using a completely randomized design with seven treatments and four replications. Treatments consisted of inoculation with four Rhizobium strains (MT8, MT15, MT16, and MT23) and one commercial inoculant comprising Bradyrhizobium spp. strains BR 2801 and BR 2003. There were two controls, one absolute (without inoculation or nitrogen fertilization) and the other with nitrogen fertilization. Each experimental plot consisted of an 8-dm 3 vase containing three plants. Analyzed variables included plant height, SPAD index, number and dry weight of nodules, and shoot and root dry masses. Pigeon peas responded significantly to inoculation treatment, since all the plants inoculated with Rhizobium strains isolated from cowpea strains showed results similar to plants in the nitrogen control and commercial inoculant treatments. This demonstrates a favorable plant-bacteria interaction, which can be utilized as an alternative nitrogen source for pigeon peas.Keywords: Cajanus cajan. Cerrado. Inoculation. DESENVOLVIMENTO DO FEIJÃO GUANDU INOCULADO COM RIZÓBIO ISOLADO DE PLANTAS ISCAS DE FEIJÃO CAUPIRESUMO -O feijão guandu é uma importante fonte proteica usada em diversos países dos trópicos e subtrópicos, sendo considerada uma planta de múltiplos usos e resistente às condições do Cerrado brasileiro. Dentre as atividades utilizadas, destaca-se o emprego como adubo verde, promovendo aumento do teor de nitrogênio no solo através da associação com bactérias diazotróficas genericamente conhecidas como rizóbio. Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a eficiência de estirpes de rizóbio isoladas de plantas de feijão caupi sobre o desenvolvimento do feijão guandu cultivado em Latossolo Vermelho. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado com sete tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos de cinco estirpes de rizóbio (MT8, MT15, MT16, MT23, um inoculante comercial composto pelas estirpes BR 2801 e BR 2003 de Bradyrhizobium spp.) e duas testemunhas, sendo uma absoluta (sem inoculação e sem adubação nitrogenada) e outra com adubação nitrogenada. RESUMOO objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o desempenho do feijoeiro-comum (Phaseolus vulgaris L) em função da inoculação de sementes com Rhizobium tropici e das adubações nitrogenada e molibdica. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, em arranjo fatorial 2x2x2, constituindo-se das combinações de ausência e presença de inoculação de sementes, da adubação molíbdica e da adubação nitrogenada. A inoculação das sementes foi imediatamente antes da semeadura com inoculante turfoso composto da estirpe CIAT 899 (SEMIA 4077); a adubação nitrogenada foi na semeadura (10 kg.ha -1 ) e em cobertura (50 kg.ha -1 ), quando as plantas apresentaram a terceira folha trifoliolada expandida e o molibdênio (Mo) foi aplicado em pulverização foliar na dose de 60 g.ha -1 . Não foram observados efeitos dos tratamentos para a massa seca de raízes e o número de vagens por planta. A adubação nitrogenada reduziu a nodulação nos feijoeiros. Todavia, com a adubação nitrogenada foi verificado incremento na altura e na massa seca da parte aérea dos feijoeiros. Grãos de feijão mais pesados foram observados em feijoeiros adubados com N na ausência de Mo. As interações entre adubação nitrogenada e molibdica com inoculação de sementes afetaram, também, o teor de N foliar e o número de grãos por vagem A inoculação de sementes proporcionou nos feijoeiros rendimentos de grãos semelhantes aos fertilizados com N. A complete randomized block design with four replicates was used, in a factorial arrangement 2x2x2, with the combinations of absence and presence of seed inoculation and nitrogen (N) and molybdenum (Mo) fertilization. Seeds inoculation was just before sowing with a peat inoculante composed by the strain CIAT 899 (SEMIA 4077), N was provided at sowing (10 kg.ha -1 ) and coverage (50 kg.ha -1 ) when the plants showed the third trifoliate sheet expand and Mo was applied by foliar spraying with 60 g.ha -1 when plants were at beginning of flowering . No effect of treatments on the dry mass of roots and the number of pods per plant was observed. N fertilization reduced nodulation of plants, however, N fertilization lead to an increase in height and dry mass of bean shoots. It was also observed that plants fertilized with N but in the absence of Mo shoed heavier grains. The interactions between N and Mo fertilization with inoculation of seed negatively affected the leaf N content and the number of grains per pod. The inoculation of seed in beans provided grain yields similar to those provided by the treatment with N fertilization.

The common bean can obtain nitrogen (N) from the decomposition of the soil organic matter, mineral fertilizers, and biological nitrogen fixation (BNF). This study aimed to evaluate the behavior of nodulation parameters related to BNF throughout the development of common bean cultivars with different growth cycles. The experiments were conducted for two consecutive years (2012 and 2013) with 22 common bean cultivars with different growth cycles. The common bean cultivars were inoculated with a mixture of Rhizobium tropici strains (SEMIA 4077, SEMIA 4080, and SEMIA 4088). In 2012, samplings were performed from the V4 to the R8 stage, and the parameters related to nodulation and crop growth were evaluated at each stage and in the R9 stage, the grain yield and its components were measured. For the 2013 experiment, the same evaluations were performed but the nodulation parameters were only measured in the R6 and the R7 stages. Differences in the number and activity of the nodules along the development of the cultivars were observed. For the early and semi-early cycle cultivars, the activity of the nodules was observed until the R7 stage, while for the regular and late cycle cultivars, this activity only occurred until the R6 stage, resulting in three more days of nodule activity for the early and semi-early cycle cultivars as compared to the regular and late ones. The number of nodules correlated significantly with the shoot dry weight and the shoot Total-N; while the nodules dry mass showed a significantly high correlation with both parameters. The overall mean grain yield was 2,766.75 kg ha −1 . However significant difference related solely to the various cultivars cycles were not observed. ARTICLE HISTORY
