The aim of the current study is to compare motivation, self-concept and physical activity level between students practicing dance as extracurricular activity and those who do not. The total of 200 students (mean age 8 ± 0.8 years) divided in two groups participated in the experiment: a) physical education (PE) and b) physical education combined with dance practices (PEDP). Two questionnaires were used, one for the parents (Schooling - Economic stratum) and one for students. The students’ questionnaire consisted of a structured interview divided in four parts: a) General information; b) Motivation; c) Self-concept; and d) Physical activity level. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Results showed that students in the PEDP group were more motivated by Status (p = 0.049) and General Affiliation (p = 0.010), whereas 88% of the students in the PE group showed higher social self-concept (p = 0.010). With respect to physical activity level, 100% (p = 0.000) of students in the PEDP group were active and showed screen time 3.88 hours per day (p = 0.000). It was possible concluding that students in the PEDP group showed higher motivation and physical activity level than those in the PE group, who showed better self-concept.

Culturalmente reconhecida nas diferentes regiões brasileiras, as danças de salão tem como particularidade a formação de duplas, evidenciando a aproximação dos corpos e ampliação das relações interpessoais. Neste sentido, o presente estudo objetiva analisar o ensino das danças de salão em interface com a Orientação Sexual como tema transversal, na ótica dos estudantes em aulas de Educação Física. De abordagem qualitativa, fundamentada pela pesquisa-ação, foram implementadas e analisadas dez aulas duplas para uma turma de 9º ano do Ensino Fundamental de uma escola do interior do Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Verificou-se que os estudantes demonstram desinteresse pelo aprendizado das danças e compreensões incipientes acerca da discussão de gênero. Incisivamente, as meninas expressaram receio em serem hostilizadas pelos comentários machistas e preconceituosos. Embora o respeito ao próximo tenha sido evidenciado como valor primordial à aprendizagem das danças, de modo geral, os estudantes não demonstraram reconhecimento das problemáticas inerentes ao tema, dificultando a desconstrução para construção de novas significações. O estudo demonstra que o trato da Orientação Sexual pode estar atrelado ao ensino da dança. Para tanto, prescinde estratégias articuladas de planejamento e ação para superação das condutas discriminatórias na escola.

Phenomenological investigations are concerned with unfolding the nature of a phenomenon through the process of describing and understanding subjective lived experiences. The process through which this is accomplished varies according to the underlying philosophical concepts and specific methodological strategies adopted. A common means of achieving this objective is through hours-long interviews that are recorded and later transcribed and analyzed. The present article describes an alternative method that accesses the participants' experiences of a phenomenon through encounters with a researcher, who then uses dialogical data to develop comprehensive narratives. These are written in first person in order to grasp the participant's significant meanings based on what emerged during their encounter and its impact on the researcher. A narrative synthesis is then constructed in order to enable the phenomenological process of analysis to reach the structural elements based on all participants' experiences. Exemplary excerpts are presented in order to illustrate the process.Keywords: Dialogical encounters; Narratives; Phenomenological research.
