Medidas corporais de novilhos das gerações avançadas do cruzamento rotativo entre as raças Charolês e Nelore, terminados em confinamento

Abstract: Foram avaliados, durante a terminação, os efeitos da heterozigose e do grupo genético nas medidas corporais de novilhos puros (Charolês - C e Nelore - N) e mestiços da segunda (G2) (3/4C1/4N e 3/4N1/4C), da terceira (G3) (5/8C3/8N e 5/8N3/8C) e da quarta (G4) (11/16C5/16N e 11/16N5/16C) geração de cruzamento rotativo. Os novilhos foram confinados durante 97 dias, sendo alimentados com a mesma dieta, contendo 12,32% de proteína bruta e 2,96Mcal de energia digestível kg-1 de matéria seca, com relação volumoso:co… Show more

“…HG was the body measurement with the highest degree of association (0.93) with body weight (p < 0.01). These results corroborate recent studies that have demonstrated that the greater the HG of the animal, the heavier it is, and this measurement can be employed as an indicator of body weight (MENEZES et al, 2008;REIS et al, 2008).…”

“…Therefore, values closer to the observed weight were verified, because when height measurements are used to estimate the body weight, one considers the size of the animal. These results corroborate Menezes et al (2008), who indicated the height at the rump as the most convenient method for describing the skeletal size of bovine, since this measurement is more precise than height at the withers, because of the animal position, which must be appropriate.…”

“…Even though most of the performance assessments of animals are only related to the weight, other measurements related to the body structure, such as body length, heart girth and height, are important (Menezes et al, 2008). According to Silva et al (2006), it is possible to estimate the live weight and other body aspects related to productivity through the biometric measurements of the lambs.…”

“…This assertion is based on the peaks observed in the intermediate ages and a deceleration in the growth of the crossbred animals as they aged, which followed the weight development of the animals, with the crossbred losing their superiority compared to the Charolais animals (MENEZES et al, 2008). Moreover, the rump height of the ¾ C ¼ N crossbreds was similar to the ¾ N ¼ C crossbreds at 8 and 12 months of age, however, after that the ¾ N ¼ C crossbreds became taller.…”

“…It is important to determine the pattern of measurements in the different animal biotypes, as well as the behavior of the heterosis of these traits, to help direct crossbreeding practices within commercial herds (MENEZES et al, 2008). The objectives of the present study were to examine the effects of the mating system, the genetic groups within each mating system, and their interactions on the morphometric development of male beef cattle from 8 to 24 months of age, and to measure the resulting heterosis.…”
