Show more

“…A decrease in the strength of the respiratory muscles causes impairments in the performance of functional activities 2 , such as routine activities, with varying degrees of complexity and energy costs. In addition, changes can be observed in the amount and composition of lung tissue components such as elastin, collagen and proteoglycans, which lead to a reduced chest compliance and increased pulmonary compliance 3 .…”

“…One of the tools used was the manovacuometer, which is simple, practical and precise in the assessment of respiratory muscle strength 15 , and easy to handle, with possibility of adjustment 5 and with use in several studies [16][17][18][19] .…”

“…A study 35 evaluated the respiratory muscle strength and the peak of expiratory flow before and after the application of the six-week treatment program, consisting of three weekly sessions of 15 minutes each. The 16 elderly participants were divided into four groups: training inspiratory incentive (Respiron); expansive training manual techniques (diaphragmatic breathing and compression/decompression); training techniques associated with both; and a control group.…”
