Sida tuberculata (Malvaceae) is a medicinal plant traditionally used in Brazil as an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agent. Here, we aimed to investigate the different extractive techniques on phytochemical parameters, as well as to evaluate the toxicity and antioxidant capacity of S. tuberculata extracts using in silico and in vitro models. Therefore, in order to determine the dry residue content and the main compound 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) concentration, extracts from leaves and roots were prepared testing ethanol and water in different proportions. Extracts were then assessed by Artemia salina lethality test, and toxicity prediction of 20E was estimated. Antioxidant activity was performed by DPPH and ABTS radical scavenger assays, ferric reducing power assay, nitrogen derivative scavenger, deoxyribose degradation, and TBARS assays. HPLC evaluation detected 20E as main compound in leaves and roots. Percolation method showed the highest concentrations of 20E (0.134 and 0.096 mg/mL of extract for leaves and roots, respectively). All crude extracts presented low toxic potential on A. salina (LD50 >1000 µg/mL). The computational evaluation of 20E showed a low toxicity prediction. For in vitro antioxidant tests, hydroethanolic extracts of leaves were most effective compared to roots. In addition, hydroethanolic extracts presented a higher IC50 antioxidant than aqueous extracts. TBARS formation was prevented by leaves hydroethanolic extract from 0.015 and 0.03 mg/mL and for roots from 0.03 and 0.3 mg/mL on egg yolk and rat tissue, respectively (P<0.05). These findings suggest that S. tuberculata extracts are a considerable source of ecdysteroids and possesses a significant antioxidant property with low toxic potential.

Herb" has been derived from a Latin word "herba" which means herb. At present, herb alludes to different natural origin parts of the plant like seed, bark, root, rhizomes, stem, bud, flower, leaf and nonwoody plant. Medicinal plants have proved to be effective for their different purposes. Anti-inflammatory activity is shown by the plants that have the capability to synthesize variety of phytochemical compounds as secondary metabolites. By showing effects on body mechanics the herbs of natural origin reduce all types of inflammation. These herbs give relief from swelling, stiffness, joints pain and inflammation. Anti-inflammatory supplement as well as anti-inflammatory herbs decrease the level of prostaglandins which is chemical released by cells at sites of injury and also sensitize the nerve endings that cause pain. In different systems like Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani, several medicinal plants were used for curing different human diseases. In this review an effort is being made to inquire anti-arthritic and antiinflammatory activity of medicinal herbal drugs.

Plants have been considered to be useful as a medicine for treating different ailments and improving health conditions, since ancient times. The plants as herbal drugs lay down an important foundation of different, well recognized, ancient, and traditional healthcare systems in India as well as other parts of the world. In India, plants constitute an important and indispensable role in different ancient healthcare systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Naturopathy, and Homeopathy. In Ayurveda system of medicine, one of the Rasayana plants having a great medicinal importance is Sida cordifolia belonging to the family Malvaceae. It is an annual undershrub found throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of India. It has been used since ancient times for various ailments in Ayurveda system of medicine. It has numerous folklore uses in different pathological conditions. The plant also reported to possess a number of important pharmacological activities. The present review focused on all these folklore use of this herb along with its reported pharmacological activities.
